Mark it down. If this movie is even just moderately good, Idris Elba is your Best Actor winner at the Oscars come next February. Elba is one of the best actors working in cinema and television today. Pacific Rim‘s early trailers, well, they weren’t that great. And I’m not talking The Lone Ranger not great (which is probably because the movie sucks). I’m talking John Carter focusing on the Martians not great. Without human context, giant robots fighting giant monsters just looks a bit hokey.
