David Fincher To Direct Aaron Sorkin’s Steve Jobs Script
I never really like the combination of David Fincher and Aaron Sorkin on The Social Network. The pair seemed so different, an aloof auteur director and an energetic auteur writer. But people over 35 at the time really thought the movie was something special because it confirmed all their sad assumptions about Millennials, so the film earned over $220 million at the global box office. Well, it looks like the pair are going to have a chance to take on another tech legend. (Or should I say the tech legend?) Fincher is officially in talks to direct Aaron Sorkin’s Steve Jobs biopic for Sony. The script is said to focus on three long scenes taking place behind the scenes before Apple’s on-stage product launches. Hopefully this structure better lends itself to the meshing of the two styles. Unlike the folks in The...
Read MoreAdam Driver Set To Play The Villain In STAR WARS VII
Do we finally have real solid Star Wars VII casting news? Looks like. Variety is reporting that and other sources like Deadline have confirmed that Girls star Adam Driver has been cast as the main villain in J.J. Abrams’s upcoming Star Wars sequel. While details are still sketchy, Variety’s sources are saying the actor, who was recently featured in the Coens’ Inside Llewyn Davis, is close to signing on the dotted line. Every actor on the planet seems to have been connected to Star Wars VII since the movie was announced, including hot stars like Benedict Cumberbatch and Chiwetel Ejiofor. The Driver news, however, is the first solidly reported bit of casting news outside of the original cast members returning. So what do you think of Driver as the Star...
Read MoreBenedict Cumberbatch and Gary Oldman May Have Already Signed For STAR WARS VII
It’s long (in internet years) been rumored that Benedict Cumberbatch was in fact set to join Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford in J.J. Abrams’s Star Wars VII. Of course, the denials started pretty quickly after that. But if there’s one thing we know about J.J. Abrams, it’s that you can’t trust one single thing that he or anyone involved in his movies has to say about anything. Well over at MarketSaw, “sources” are saying that Mr. Cumberbatch is almost certainly in the film. And he’s got another British acting legend joining him: Here’s what my source had to say about some of who will wind up being cast: Ian McDiarmid, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Billy Dee Williams, Anthony Daniels, Warwick Davies, Benedict Cumberbatch and Gary Oldman. I believe Cumberbatch and Oldman were pursued for the same role, but I don’t know how that...
Read MoreSo Just How Many INDIANA JONES Movies Are In The Works?
Make no mistake here. I don’t want to see Harrison Ford in another Indiana Jones movie. It’ll be like watching post-stroke Dick Clark on New Year’s Rockin’ Eve. But here we are. More Indy is on the way. Not long ago, I posted that Harrison Ford made another Indiana Jones movie part of his deal to appear in Star Wars VII. Well, it may be worse than I thought. According to MarketSaw, his sources are telling him that there’s more than one Indy flick on the way: Regarding Harrison Ford, two more Indiana Jones features are in the negotiation stages as per Ford’s contract clause on Star Wars, which is the primary reason he didn’t ‘publicly’ or ‘privately’ commit, or so I’m told. I wonder if he can still out run giant boulders in a...
Read MoreNo Movie Star For Dr. Strange? Kevin Feige Says It’s Possible
When it comes to casting the Marvel heroes, Kevin Feige and company haven’t ever gone with a superstar. But that didn’t stop rumors from circulating that Marvel had its eye on Johnny Depp for the role of Dr. Strange. Well, as it turns Feige unsurprisingly doesn’t think he needs somebody that big for the role. In speaking with IGN, the Marvel uber producer had this to say about the casting process: Doctor Strange would be our — well, depending on when we make it, it could be our 13th, 14th, 15th movie, right? I think if you’re looking to track our decision-making and how we’ve done things, we have a pretty wide track record now where you can sort of see. So, no, a movie star is not required, but that doesn’t mean a movie star wouldn’t be great....
Read MoreRay Kurzweil Gives HER Two Thumbs Way Up
Film critics around the world, including this one, have already expressed their adoration for Spike Jonze’s AI romance Her. But most of us can’t speak expertly about the actual subject matter like noted futurist Ray Kurzweil. Kurzweil, whose Age of the Spiritual Machines and The Singularity is Near have given us a glimpse of what our lives will be like with sentient artificial life all around us, put on his film critic cap last week announcing his approval for Jonze’s masterpiece. What did Kurzweil have to say? This is a breakthrough concept in cinematic futurism in the way that The Matrix presented a realistic vision that virtual reality will ultimately be as real as, well, real reality. Word. Kurzweil went on to compare Her to the much less successful (in his opinion) attempt at a movie about artificial life, Spielberg’s A.I. Artificial Intelligence, saying that Jonze provided a...
