BFCA nominees – INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS, NINE lead with 10 nods each
After yesterday’s ridiculous AFI list, it’s nice to see that the Broadcast Film Critics Association is in tune with both Oscar and the culture at large. The BFCA is still a critics group, of course. I wouldn’t bet on seeing all ten of their nominees in the Best Picture race. But any group that doesn’t honor The Hangover automatically carries more clout in the long run. BEST PICTURE Nominees: • Avatar • An Education • The Hurt Locker • Inglourious Basterds • Invictus • Nine • Precious • A Serious Man • Up • Up In The Air Full list after the jump. While the Los Angeles Film Critics Association sometimes thinks too far outside the box for Oscar’s taste (see WALL-E‘s win), The Hurt Locker‘s prize here pretty much locks it in for a Best Picture nomination. Even if it doesn’t win the top prize, I’m starting to think Kathryn Bigelow may be the one to beat in the Best Director race. (Sorry, Jason Reitman.) PICTURE: The Hurt Locker Runner-up: Up in the Air DIRECTOR: Kathryn Bigelow, The Hurt Locker Runner-up: Michael Haneke, The White Ribbon ACTRESS: Yolande Moreau, Séraphine Runner-up: Carey Mulligan, An Education ACTOR: Jeff Bridges, Crazy Heart Runner-up: Colin Firth, A Single Man SUPPORTING ACTRESS: Mo’Nique, Precious Runner-up: Anna Kendrick, Up in the Air SUPPORTING ACTOR: Christoph Waltz, Inglourious Basterds Runner-up:...

The Sundance Film Festival announced that it will show eight select films from the 2010 festival at special screenings across the country. The screenings take place in 8 cities on Jan. 28, close to the end of the film festival’s scheduled Jan. 21-31 dates. And yes, the filmmakers will be in attendance. For those of us who can’t afford can’t find the time to go to the actual festival this is a great way to feel like you’re at least part of the goings on in Park City. Looks like I may have to make a trip to Ann Arbor in January. From Sundance (edited): Sundance Institute today announced eight films from the 2010 Sundance Film Festival scheduled to screen in eight different cities nationwide on the night of Thursday, January 28, 2010. Tickets for the January 28 screenings...
