The Oscar Nominations Are Tomorrow… Here are My Predictions
The Oscar nominations are early than they have ever been before. And the voting process has completely changed with online voting available for the first time this year. What does that mean? Who knows. With no clear Best Picture front runner this year, for the first time in a very long time, it’s even tougher to gauge Academy sentiment. So, here’s my shot at predicting the nominees in bigger Oscar categories. Let me know who you think is in or out in the comments below. Best Picture Argo Beasts of the Southern Wild Django Unchained Les Misérables Life of Pi (I still have to see this one!) Lincoln Moonrise Kingdom Silver Linings Playbook Zero Dark Thirty (Out Friday.) If there’s a 10th nominee, I’m guessing it goes to Skyfall. Best Directing Michael Haneke, Amour Ben Affleck, Argo Steven Spielberg, Lincoln Ang Lee, Life of Pi...

It feels like just yesterday I was ranting writing about how much I didn’t love The Social Network, and how I was happy to see The King’s Speech as the Oscar frontrunner (and eventual Best Picture winner). Oh how quickly time goes by. Well, fellow awards watchers, it’s almost Oscar time again. And the Gurus of Gold are back with their pre-Toronto predictions. I have to put mine together before the start of the fest, too. Until then, you can pass the time by watching all of the available trailers for the Gurus’ top ten predictions: 1.) Steven Spielberg’s War Horse 2.) George Clooney’s The Ides of March 3.) Michel Hazanavicius’ The Artist (Winner of the Best Actor prize at Cannes) 4.) Stephen Daldry’s Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close No trailer yet. What’s up with that WB? 5.) Alexander Payne’s The Descendants 6.) Woody Allen’s...

Can you believe that Leonardo Dicaprio doesn’t have an Oscar? The teen heartthrob turned serious movie actor may have looked at Dustin Lance Black’s script for Clint Eastwood’s J. Edgar and said, “Well, that’s going to change this year.” Entertainment Weekly nabbed the first photos (one above, two more at EW.com) of Leo in drag as the founder and first director of the FBI. The story of Hoover’s rise and fall sounds like a Shakespearean tragedy: Screenwriter Dustin Lance Black to EW: “I started to become curious about the ‘why,’” says screenwriter Dustin Lance Black, Oscar-winner for 2008’s Milk. “He did wonderful things for this country, but why did he ended up doing so many things that were heinous and harmful? I think it was all in the name of trying to fill that void, where love goes, with public...

Warner Bros. might be campaigning Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2 for Oscar, but they’re smart enough to hedge their bets. WB has set Clint Eastwood’s J. Edgar (starring Leonardo DiCaprio) for a Nov. 9 release and will roll-out Stephen Daldry’s post-9/11 drama, Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close (starring Tom Hanks & Sandra Bullock) starting on Christmas. Both releases will be limited to start, but are set for prime Oscar consideration. (Variety) Trekkies get your passports ready. There’s a Star Trek-themed amusement park set to open in Jordan in 2014. (TIME) As if the Universal and Relativity Media Snow White adaptations weren’t enough, Disney has tapped visual effects specialist Michael Gracey to direct its own live-action adaptation of the classic fairy tale. (EW) The behind-the-scenes drama that seems to plague every AMC series right now is almost over for Breaking...
