It’s the Joker! (’The Dark Knight’ Big Reveal)

I remember the old days when I would have to cut pictures of the upcoming Batman movies out of newspapers and magazines. Oh, the 1990s. Thanks to the Internet, Bat fans everywhere got to take part in the big reveal for the Nolan-ized Joker. The Dark Knight comes out in July of 2008, and all I can say after seeing the Joker is I CAN’T WAIT. Seriously, I’m buying a time machine and going to next July. I was totally expecting a cheap The Crow ripoff, but this is sensational. This is the only Joker that could exist in the Batman Begins universe. Kudos to all...

Vid Pick: ‘Off the Wall’ Episode 1

The next great Internet series? Well, with over 410,000 views in two weeks, the first episode of Alex Hirsch’s live-action/animated series is certainly getting around. Compared to Prom Queen, which averages 3,000 views per episode on You Tube, this California Institute of the Arts student is making a serious splash. Oh and did I mention it’s funny. Yeah, Simpsons funny. [youtube cv1o_9S2iDk] The Simpsons: Season...

Johnny wants his record back

After Spider-Man 3 scored the first ever $150 million weekend, Disney is getting a little more aggressive with Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End. Deadline Hollywood Daily broke the news that Pirates 3 is adding not just midnight showings, but 8 p.m. showings on Thursday, May 24. Those Thursday grosses have a nasty little habit of ending up in the weekend numbers. Pirates 3’s 3-hour runtime is going to make it tough to last the weekend, so the move makes sense. More screenings mean more money, even if they don’t count toward the weekend. I personally need Pirates 3 to have a big return. You see, I stupidly shorted the Spider-Man 3 stock on Hollywood Stock Exchange and lost $2 million dollars. Who would have thought it was going to make more than $125 million? Here’s hoping for...

May Summer Movies: Urge to Kill Rising

Posted by on Jul 18, 2007 in Random | 0 comments

See, even Spider-Man is going crazy after Louis Stevens took number one at the box office for the third week in a row. Thankfully, the summer movie season officially kicks-off this Friday, May 4, with the opening of Spider-Man 3. Word on the street has been that the third Peter Parker movie is the most expensive movie ever made ($500 million), which means it has to make $100 million+ opening weekend for Sony to even think about putting the cash down to make a movie about Spider-Man. The good news is that Spider-Man 3 has a two week window to make some cash before Shrek the Third (May 18) with more theaters and a much shorter runtime begins running away with the summer. Spider-Man 3 clocks in at two hours and 20 minutes compared to Shrek’s one and a...

Earth Day Movies

Happy Earth Day everyone! And it’s what an Earth Day it is. It’s the first one in my memory where everyone appears to be behind the environment not for a single day, but for the long haul. The tide has turned in favor of those of us who want to make a effort to take back some of the damage we are doing to our planet. Since this primarily a film site, it’s a good idea to share a list of Earth Day essentials. These movies are rousing illustrations for building the determination we will need and justifying the sacrifices we will have to make. The right-wingers are right about one thing: the Earth will fix itself if we don’t. That just means wiping out the problem–us. Keep that in when you leave a light on. Planet Earth The...
