Read More‘Hairspray’ Soundtrack Review
For every fan of the John Waters’s original film Hairspray, I have one recommendation: buy the soundtrack to the 2007 movie musical version and listen. Listen closely. The slight subtle subversion is there. I mean there’s a song called “Miss Baltimore Crabs”. Use your imagination. But the soundtrack to Hairspray, an Adam Shankman-directed adaptation of the Broadway musical, itself adapted from the 1988 film, is definitely a musical soundtrack. The opening song “Good Morning Baltimore” is a showtune through and through, with the big (blonde?) and beautiful voice of Nikki Blonsky leaving no room for argument. The incompatibility of John Waters’s irreverence and Broadway’s shine are ever apparent. Yet, against the odds, these songs, the quirky lyrics and the quirkier performances are defiantly great. The shear joy aroused by Christopher Walken and John Travlota (Mr. and Mrs. Turnblad, respectively)...

Up-and-coming actress Gwendolyn Edwards shares some thoughts on her first production The Last Confederate and what it’s like breaking into the business. Part 3 (of 3) FC: Honestly, if you were to have asked me, I wouldn’t have said that you had just come from theatre. It seemed that you did it so naturally, knowing it now, that it improves the movie. What do you look to improve as you progress with your acting career in film acting? GE: Because I had never done film, I didn’t realize that I’m naturally suited to do film because of the way I act. I’m very subtle and the things I do are very small, but with a lot of passion behind them. In theatre, you can’t just think something, whereas in film I could just think it, and you could see...

Up-and-coming actress Gwendolyn Edwards shares some thoughts on her first production The Last Confederate and what it’s like breaking into the business. Part 2 (of 3) FC: It’s always hard for low budget features to nail the period. You seem to do it better than anyone in the film, not tripping over the dialogue. We’re so used to using contractions when we are talking, and you nailed the period. How hard was it to focus on that, trying to get these lines out, because it is such an unnatural way of speaking? GE: It was very hard. Thank you for the compliment because it was extremely hard. But I have done Shakespeare before, so I would probably attribute it to that. There’s nothing harder than trying to make Shakespeare sound natural. This was like that, but it was just...

Up-and-coming actress Gwendolyn Edwards shares some thoughts on her first production The Last Confederate and what it’s like breaking into the business. Part 1 (of 3) The Film Chair: Your middle name, Leigh, came from the actress Vivien Leigh. This is a Civil War picture, a Civil War romance. It’s almost like you were destined for this. Gwendolyn Edwards: It’s pretty weird. My mom was just a big fan of Vivien Leigh. She was a big fan of “Gone with the Wind.” That’s the reason I was named after Vivien Leigh. I never had aspirations of being an actor as a kid. I never even thought of it. I don’t know if it was destiny or not, but maybe it was a little sign that a change may be in the stars. FC: Well, as far as old Hollywood...

A lowly jizz mopper is endowed by the Guardian Angel of Porn to be the savior of smut. Nope, this isn’t porn. As the intro says, there is little erotic value to this one at all. But it’s an irreverent, non-PC comedy that, full disclosure time, was made by a friend of mine, Hviz. (Hey PR is my day job. Sue me.) [youtube...
