UPDATED: Rawson Marshall Thurber Is The Frontrunner for Marvel’s ANT-MAN
UPDATE 2: And as quickly as word spread that Adam McKay was talking with Marvel, THR has reported that the Anchorman helmer has pulled out of Ant-Man negotiations because of commitments to other projects.
UPDATE: It looks like it may be Adam McKay‘s job after all, with Deadline reporting that McKay’s reps and Marvel are hammering out the deal as I type this. I’m sure his association with Paul Rudd helped.
ORIGINAL: After Edgar Wright‘s departure from Ant-Man, it was assumed that Marvel already had a director waiting in the wings. Well, according to The Wrap, Dodgeball and We’re the Millers helmer Rawson Marshall Thurber might be that director.
Nothing is official yet, as Marvel and Thurber’s reps have declined to comment on the matter. But considering the film is still scheduled to hit theaters on July 17, 2015, getting someone in the chair is a high priority for Disney.
Thurber’s not the only one up for the job, though. Zombieland‘s Ruben Fleischer is also on the very short list, as is Anchorman’s Adam McKay who has a history with star Paul Rudd. So what do all these directors have in common? Comedy, of course.
Based on these choices, Ant-Man may have a comedic bent that goes well beyond what we’ve already seen in the Marvel movies. Wright could have handled that as well, but these guys are less visually interesting than Wright, making it easier for them to fit the Marvel mold.
So what do you think?
Calnilg all cars, calling all cars, we’re ready to make a deal.
