TRUE DETECTIVE Season 2 Will Take Place In California, Have 3 Leads
Anyone who watched the first season of True Detective is dying to know more about the second. Anything at all. Why? Because the show really is that damn good. I’ve watched it twice.
Thankfully, MTV has come to the rescue with details about the season two, by way of a “To the Best of Our Knowledge” interview with the show’s creator Nic Pizzolatto. Here’s the essential pull:
Right now, we’re working with three leads. It takes place in California — not Los Angeles, but some of the much lesser known venues of California — and we’re going to try to capture a certain psychosphere ambiance of the place, much like we did in season one… The characters are all new, but I’m deeply in love with each of them. We’ve got the entire series broken out with a couple of scripts, and we’ll probably start casting in earnest in the coming months.
While Jessica Chastain may one of the new leads, Pizzolatto’s comments are enough to keep us excited about the next season. It’ll be interesting to see how Pizzolatto and company use the backdrop of California, given the ease at which you can use a southern gothic motif in the Bayou.
Where will they go if they’re leaving the pulpy, noir of LA behind? Vertigo‘s San Francisco? Traffic‘s San Diego? Sidways‘ wine country? Wherever it is, that place is going to be just as important as the three new actors/actresses who will take on the characters Pizzolatto enthused about.
