The WORLD WAR Z Sequel Gets A Director
After the smashing global success of World War Z, at least at the box office, Brad Pitt and Paramount had a big win in their column. The production was plagued with setback and no one was surprised when Marc Forester wouldn’t be back for the suddenly inevitable sequel. The question then was who would take the helm of the once troubled franchise?
The answer: Juan Antonio Bayona.
Bayona, THR’s Heat Vision Blog reports, has been selected as the director of the upcoming sequel to World War Z. The Spanish director previously helmed the Guillermo Del Toro-produced thriller The Orphanage and directed Naomi Watts to an Oscar nomination with the true life tsunami disaster picture The Impossible.
So he can do thrills and he can do disaster movies. Throw some zombies in there, and it just makes sense. Here’s hoping the WWZ sequel, under the direction of Bayona, doesn’t feel like the watchable but obviously directed by committee first film.
