Oliver Stone Sought After For MLK Biopic With Jamie Foxx As Possible Star
With a script approved by the King family and Steve Spielberg on board to produce, how could Dreamworks/Warner Bros. upcoming Martin Luther King, Jr. biopic get any better? Adding Oliver Stone and Jamie Foxx certainly helps.
Stone, of course, loves the 60s and 70s. Platoon, JFK, Nixon, Born of the Fourth of July. He’s a man who made his career off of telling stories from America’s most tumultuous era. So it isn’t a stretch at all that Stone would be the choice filmmaker to come on board.
Potentially coming along with him may be his Any Given Sunday star Jamie Foxx, who THR reports is in talks for the role of the civil rights leader.
THR does caution that these both are just meeting with producers and that nothing is signed yet. But if you’re looking for a way to have your MLK movie compete with Paul Greengrass’s Memphis, about the last days of King, then getting these Oscar winners on board should do the trick. That’s if Memphis does ever get made. Seriously, Greengrass. Seriously.
