So Benedict Cumberbatch May Not Be In STAR WARS VII After All
Over Labor Day weekend, a rumor about Benedict Cumberbatch being in Star Wars VII hit the web hard and fast. Then fuel was added to the fire when Cumberbatch was said he was a major villain, not just any character.
In a perfect world, Cumberbatch as a Sith Lord in Star Wars would be exactly what we get for Christmas in 2015. But apparently we can’t have nice things. Cumberbatch’s reps shot down the rumor like an X-Wing to a Tie Fighter in New York Daily News:
“There is no truth to the rumour Benedict has been cast in Star Wars,” a spokesperson for the 37-year-old actor told the News. “I think the rumours are circling because JJ and Benedict have just recently had a wonderful time working together on Star Trek.”
If it were J.J. Abrams or Disney denying the rumors, I’d say it could just be a silly little smoke screen the likes were used to getting with an Abrams production. But we’re talking Cumberbatch’s reps here. Considering he’s an in demand actor, his reps are either keeping doors open for him that would have closed with an announced trilogy commitment, or he’s really not in it and they want to make that clear so doors don’t close on him.
It wouldn’t be surprising if, in the end, Cumberbatch still showed up in Star Wars VII. But until there’s an official announcement? Hopes dashed.
