Who’s Playing Lex Luthor In BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN? It May Be Down To Two Actors.

So we know that there’s a short list of six actors who may play Batman in Batman Vs. Superman, but who’s up for the role of Lex Luthor. Two conflicting rumors have started to circulate that position two distinctly different actors in the role of the evil genius.

First, let’s go with the obvious and slightly conventional choice: Mark Strong.

Digital Spy is reporting that the Sherlock star has hinted that he may in fact be Lex Luthor. According to the site, when they asked Strong about playing Luthor, Strong responded, “All I can say is… watch this space.” Whatever that means. Strong would be a rather ordinary casting choice for Luthor, and one that would make Luthor slightly older than the presumed Batman actor, who is expected to be in his 40s. Strong also has a history of playing villains in a number of movies, including a similar role as an evil business man in Mark Millar’s Kick-Ass, so Luthor isn’t a stretch.

The second is a much more intriguing choice: Bryan Cranston.

Latino Review’s rumor monger El Mayimbe sent a series of tweets yesterday that Cranston was indeed the man who would be Luthor. Cranston is slightly older and more haggard than Mark Strong. If Luthor is going to step in between Batman and Superman, then a Cranston Luthor could add a much needed dynamic to the role. He looks the part of a working-class, self-made billionaire, someone who wasn’t born with a silver spoon in his mouth and an empire in his inheritance like Bruce Wayne. The only downside to Cranston would be that his bald head would only remind people of Breaking Bad… even if he doesn’t have Heisenberg’s signature goatee. But Cranston is a strong enough actor to overcome that, right?

So who would you like to see as Luthor: Cranston or Strong? Let me know in the comments below.

  1. Must be Strong! He was excellent in Sherlock Holmes. Very deep!!!!

  2. Strong is so imposing and so handsome, so that when he plays a villain, he is just chillingly evil. Mark Strong please!!!!

  3. Please let it be Mark Strong.

  4. I’m still surprised anyone thinks there’s room for Lex Luthor in a BATMAN/SUPERMAN movie.

  5. Billy Zane would be the perfect choice for Lex Luthor.

  6. Billy Zane is Lex Luthor!

  7. Of course it should be Bryan Cranston, but that doesn’t take anything away from Strong, he would make a great Luthor, but Cranston would take it to a whole nutha level.

  8. I would love to see Cranston take the roll just to see what he could do with it. It would probably be the highlight of the whole movie, but it would be hard to get Walter White out of my head even without the goatee. Strong on the other hand I think would be a pretty predictable version ripped straight from the comics. Not saying that’s a bad thing at all. Lex is a great character and villain so as the old saying goes “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. He also looks the part a little more that Cranston.

  9. Stanley Tucci would be my first choice, his part as the serial killer in The Lovely Bones was chilling. He’d make previous Lex Luthors look like fairys. I’d settle for Cranston though, I’ve loved him in Breaking Bad.
