Back from the Dead, Paramount and Pitt Plan WORLD WAR Z Sequel
Has there been a more harrowing journey to the screen in recent years then that of the Brad Pitt-produced World War Z? Maybe only Superman’s story has more twists and turns than the adaptation of Max Brooks’s best-selling zombie novel. And the biggest surprise of it all: The movie is actually good. Really good, in fact. Short of an anthology series, this is the best damn adaptation of World War Z that we’re ever going to get.
Yep, Brad Pitt may have just been thrust into Warren Beatty territory when it comes to actor-producers. But he’s not done with Zeke, yet. The film, which grossed $111.8 million globally in its first weekend, is now slated to become a franchise once again.
World War Z was originally envisioned as a trilogy, but those plans were scrapped when, well, the budget exploded because the filmmakers had to rewrite and reshoot the third act. (Any movie that require Damon Lindelof to come up with a better ending is in deep trouble after all.)
Now that the gamble for Pitt and Paramount has paid off, active development on a sequel will commence according to Paramount’s Rob Moore. And in another shocking twist of my own, I can honestly say I can’t wait to see part two of the World War Z saga.
