  • Michael Shannon is heading to planet Houston. The Academy Award nominee (for Revolutionary Road) has nabbed the role of the supervillain Zod in Zack Snyder’s Superman: Man of Steel. He’ll join Henry Cavill (Superman), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Kevin Costner (Pa Kent) and Diane Lane (Ma Kent) in what may be the only Snyder movie I’ll ever look forward to seeing. (THR)
  • Hallelujah. There’s a Jeff Buckley biopic on the way from music-video-director-turned-feature-filmmaker Jake Scott. The production already has the rights to Buckley’s music and will be based on the book Dream Brother: The Lives and Music of Jeff and Tim Buckley. (indieWire)
  • Let Me In director Matt Reeves has been tapped to direct a remake of John Carpenter’s sci-fi classic They Live for Universal. (THR)
  • Scott Cooper, who directed Jeff Bridges to an Oscar in Crazy Heart, will helm Out of the Furnace for Relativity. The script, about an ex-con who is released from prison only to seek vengeance for his brother’s murder, has languished for 3 years on the shelf.  (The Wrap)
