Mortensen to play Zod in Snyder’s SUPERMAN reboot?
Zack Snyder’s Superman is starting to look very, very good, and no, it’s not just because Henry Cavill is donning the blue tights.
The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision Blog posted yesterday that Snyder and producer Christopher Nolan want Viggo Mortensen to play supervillain General Zod in the upcoming film. While THR says that Warner Bros. and Mortensen’s camp haven’t started talking, they liken the interest in the actor to the Supes crew’s interest in Kevin Costner for the role of Jonathan Kent.
If the Mortensen and Costner casting pans out, then at least we’ll never be able to question Snyder’s ability to cast a movie. His Watchmen cast was about as good as you can get, and those two in their rumored roles would be as pitch-perfect as the Cavill casting. (Lucky for Snyder, he doesn’t have to cast Lois Lane, a character who is nearly impossible to get right.)
As for the female lead (Lana Lang?), Warner has Alice Eve, Diane Kruger and Rosamund Pike on the shortlist.
