THE BLIND SIDE takes the weekend box office
Sandra Bullock’s best year ever just got a little better. The Blind Side, a sleeper hit if there ever was one, topped the box office in its third weekend out, taking in $20.4 million and bringing its domestic total to $129 million. That was enough to dethrone New Moon, which won the two previous weekend and only brought in $15.7 million this time around.
Last year, if you would have told me that Sandra Bullock would have a career resurgence, I probably would have laughed right in your face. In 2009, however, Bullock has seen the release of the two highest grossing films of her career. The Proposal, which also starred Ryan Reynolds, made $163.9 million. And it’s not crazy to say that The Blind Side could top that if it carries an audience throughout the holiday season.
This is the kind of stuff that gets you a lot of attention in Hollywood. (You have to have a story to sell, right?) Bullock may just be able to ride the box office wave to an Oscar nomination. Her first.
