The writer of Patriot Games and Varsity Blues has been charged with turning American Gladiators into a sort of superhero movie. Variety reports that Peter Iliff will write the live-action feature adaptation of America’s best pop culture export since Baywatch. (Speaking of, when are we getting that Baywatch movie. Or at least a CW series.)

American Gladiators: Insert Super Awesome Subtitle Here will hit theaters in 2011.
