Spielberg sees ‘Harvey’ – TFC Morning Report
Top Story: Steven Spielberg has selected to adapt the Pulitzer Prize winning play Harvey for his next feature film. Jimmy Stewart starred in the 1950 film adaptation, which follows a man and his 6-foot invisible rabbit buddy. That role earned Stewart an Academy Award nomination while his co-star, Josephine Hull, won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar. Casting will begin immediately, and I wouldn’t be shocked if Spielberg’s old pal Tom Hanks gets a call. (Variety)
In Other News: Judd Apatow’s latest comedy Funny People topped the weekend box office, taking in an estimated $23.4 million. It’s not the big money that we usually expect from Apatow (low- to mid-30s) and his star Adam Sandler (low- to mid-40s), but it’s not a bad haul for a film about a terminally-ill comedian. Overseas, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince continues to dominate. The film took in $42.7 million at the international box office, bringing its worldwide total to $747.7 million to date. (THR)
