When William Fichtner was announced as a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cast member, it was simply said that he was playing an iconic character. My guess was Baxter Stockman, who is black in the comics but white in the 1980s children’s cartoon, because he resembled that cartoon Baxter. A friend of mine guessed Rat King because, well, just look at the guy. (No offense, Mr. Fichtner.) It looks like we let our Ninja Turtles nerds take over because the answer was much more obvious: William Fichtner is playing the Shredder.

HuffPost Canada got the scoop when they interviewed Fichtner and asked him about the upcoming movie. Here’s what he told them:

I play Shredder. It is cool. It’s one of those things that came along where I thought, “Really? Let me think about this for a minute.” [Laughs] Then I was like, “Yeah, OK, this sounds like a journey.” I’m very glad that it worked out, I’m really glad that I’m doing it.

So Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is getting a little more badass every day. Can’t wait.

What do you think of Fichtner playing the Shredder?
