Will Smith as Captain America? Not buying that one
RSSS

MTV.com posted the most ridiculous casting rumors since folks started throwing out Johnny Depp as The Riddler in the next Batman movie. According to Miracle at St. Anna star Derek Luke, Will Smith has been offered Captain America.

Always the skeptic, I am not buying this one until I see an official announcement from Marvel Studios. The MTV article addresses the first problem, which is Hancock. It’s not the first Smith movie to make $500 million worldwide, but that kind of money makes a sequel close to inevitable.

The bigger issue, however, may be Marvel’s master plan. The Avengers movie is going to have a steep price tag. By adding the biggest movie star in the world to the roster ( Can you imagine the back end deals that will come with his casting?!), you have to imagine Marvel’s bottom line is going to suffer with Smith as Captain America.

All that said, I like the idea of Smith playing Captain America. I’d love to see how they reinvent that storyline, considering the blonde-haired, blue-eyed Super Soldier was a product of WWII. Don’t imagine a Smith Cap would come out of the same era, and I don’t see it being see it easily turning into a product of the Gulf War. Well, unless Red Skull starts wearing a turban.

UPDATE: Ain’t It Cool News has debunked the rumor.  Comic book geeks collectively breathe a sigh of relief.

  1. By spending some more money and getting a remanufactured engine for your Toyota
Camry, you will be able to get a reliable car once again. Again, this is only the case,
if you are confident they your car is in pretty good shape and the only problem
is engine. The durable components that get re-machined include crankshaft, connecting rods, valves, and valve seats.

  2. Thanks for this nice article !
