Hollywood loves the 80s! Ghostbuster 3 and Ninja Turtles coming soon?
RSSS

Sometimes, it’s just good to be alive. It looks like two late-80s pop culture phenomenons are getting a 21st Century reboot.

Variety is reporting that Sony will chain two The Office scribes to their typewriters in order to write a third Venkman, Spengler, Stanz, and Zeddemore adventure. The article has no mention of Apatow and company per earlier rumors, but here’s what it says about the return of the original cast:

No deals will be made with the original cast until the script is ready, but the gross percentage will certainly be an issue. Sony has a standing policy not to allow more than 25% of first dollar gross out the door.

Earlier this week, Kevin Eastman, co-creator of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, may have confirmed a rumor that accidently spilled onto the Internets months ago thanks to a premature Playmate Toys web posting.  Yes, kids, it looks like we could get a new live-action Ninja Turtles movie after all.  Here’s what Eastman posted on his site’s message board:

Yes, it is true. Although the CGI film did well enough to warrent a sequel, there has been much talk between Imagi and Warners to do a better “re-invention” (newest Hollywood buzzword) of the TMNT’s, in a live action film–like what was done with Batman. Back to basics, back to the origin and the intro of the Shredder, etc…there have been talks, trips to Northampton to talk to Mr Laird, and discussions with the original “first” TMNT film director Steve Barron to come back and do it right–but no official word yet…will keep you posted. Best, Kevin

The post, however, has mysteriously disappeared from Eastman’s website.

Ghostbusters 3 may be closer to reality than a brooding Ninja Turtles flick.  Stay tuned.
