Sandra Bullock breaks a $200 million glass ceiling
While Avatar continues to get great coverage based on its big box office, Variety took some time out to let everyone know that there’s another, maybe more significant, box office milestone that was hit last weekend.
From Variety:
Some time over the weekend, Bullock starrer The Blind Side became the first pic in history driven solely by a top female star to jump the $200 million mark at the domestic B.O.
To be precise, the film finished the frame with a cume of $208.5 million in its seventh week in release. Over the weekend, it rose a remarkable 10% over the previous week, and it’s still got plenty of life left, according to Warner Bros. prexy of domestic distribution Dan Fellman.
Could Sandra’s sudden success result in Oscar? Maybe. Oscar certainly loves a good story.
Sandra’s a shoo-in for a nomination at this point, with SAG on her side. And while I love Meryl Streep, I’ve gone from completely dismissing Ms. Bullock (prior to seeing the movie) to rooting for her wholeheartedly. Something tells me hers would be a great acceptance speech.
