The box office goes WILD
While the third weekend in October isn’t historically a big box office weekend, this year three films opened at over $20 million, lead by Spike Jonze’s Where the Wild Things Are at $32.5 million. Warner Bros. $100 million gamble on Jonze’s adaptation of Maurice Sendak’s children’s classic appears to have paid off. (Merchandising alone should be a big boost for Warner and Sendak.)
F. Gary Gray’s Law Abiding Citizens came in at a strong No. 2 with $21.3 million. Citizen was closely followed by the phenomenon that is Paranormal Activity, which opened wide to $20 million bringing its total take to $33.7 million.
