BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN Moves to 2016
It looks like 2015 will have one less mega blockbuster on its hands.
With all the rumors about casting and planning and rewriting going around, it’s not terribly surprising that Warner Bros. has decided to delay Batman Vs. Superman for year, putting in on the schedule for the first weekend in May 2016. (More on that in a second.)
It seemed precarious at best once it was known that Argo‘s Chris Terrio was brought in to doctor the Goyer script, which now we know for sure quite obviously sucks. That’s really the only explanation for a delay like this. The story/script needs work, especially with an ever expanding scope. That’s that.
The internet has been abuzz with chatter about multiple villains and even more heroes, like Wonder Woman and Flash, which adds up to a complicated story. And all of this points less to Batman Vs. Superman and more toward a Justice League movie or movies.
As recent as 5 days ago, we learned that DC was possibly planning back-to-back films. So could we in fact be getting a two-part Justice League movie? Nothing is on the schedule yet, but don’t be surprised if Warner and DC plop another movie onto the 2017 schedule sooner rather than later.
The good news, other than the fact that someone realized Goyer couldn’t handle this project, is that Warner and DC are seriously confident in the plan. So much so that the release date they picked, May 6, 2016, goes head-to-head with a major Marvel release (Dr. Strange?).
If Batman Vs. Superman or Justice League or World’s Finest or whatever this thing will be called is solid enough to make Marvel blink, then we may actually have a decent movie on our hands. After suffering through Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises and Man of Steel, I certainly hope that’s the case.
