This might be the most obvious news you’ll hear all day, but it looks like Marc Forester isn’t directing the World War Z sequel.

The change was confirmed in Brad Pitt’cover story interview with the Hollywood Reporter:

Plan B also is developing a sequel to Z, which still is in its nascent stages, though director Marc Forster won’t be back. “We are talking about it,” says Pitt. “We are going to investigate a script. We have a lot of ideas we will cull from. Nobody is writing just yet, but we are compiling our ideas.”

Forester is pretty much like that captain of the Costa Concordia who abandoned his sinking ship, making Brad Pitt the team that hauled the cruiseliner upright.

Pitt may have got the last laugh when the film made $500 million after behind-the-scenes drama was very publicly aired, but it’s hardly surprising that Marc Forester will, ahem, be looking for other directing opportunities outside of the World War Z franchise.

Of course, now the speculation can begin as to just who will be sitting in the director’s chair for what will hopefully a much more smoothly produced sequel.
