Cameron Crowe knows how to make me fall in love, with characters, with music, with stories. I love his movies dearly. So you probably understand my excitement when Mr. Crowe tweeted this high-res look at We Bought a Zoo, his upcoming adaptation of Benjamin Mee’s memoir. The story about a father who spends his family’s life savings on an abandoned exotic animal farm has that idealist-against-reality quality that I love so much in his movies. Check out the image featuring Scarlett Johansson and Matt Damon (click for high-res): Okay, so there are movie stars and some zebras, but I’m happy to see anything from the production after the less-than-exciting pics he tweeted last. Cameron Crowe’s Elton John doc to open Tribeca

Cameron Crowe’s busiest year since, well, ever kicks off at the Tribeca Film Festival. Not only does he have We Bought a Zoo coming out later this year, but the filmmaker will premiere his intimate Elton John documentary, The Union, on the opening night of the New York fest, it was announced today. So what’s it about? MEGAMIND controls the box office, Sheen for SPIDER-MAN, Johansson goes to ZOO, more – News Links

DreamWorks Animation’s latest feature, Megamind, used its powers for good this weekend, taking in $47 million. The combined take for the top three films, including Due Date and For Colored Girls, topped $100 million. (erc BoxOffice) Martin Sheen will play Uncle Ben in Marc Webb’s upcoming Spider-Man adaptation. Sheen joins the previously cast Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, and Rhys Ifans. (Heat Vision) Scarlett Johansson is in final negotiations to star opposite Matt Damon in Cameron Crowe’s We Bought a Zoo.
