THE HUNGER GAMES teaser from the VMAs
Let me take a moment here. Okay. Okay. I just watched The Hunger Games teaser six times. Why? Because I haven’t been this excited for a blockbuster adaptation since Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. I don’t know if the teaser does anything for non-fans, but the sequence captured here, a scene from inside the arena where the Gamemakers start lobbing fireballs at tributes, is exactly how I pictured it. Well, minus Jennifer Lawrence being there. But after seeing her in Winter’s Bone, I’m confident she’ll make a badass Catniss. For those unintiated in the world of The Hunger Games, the story is set in a dystopian North America now called Panem. The country is ruled by a dictator (President Snow, played by Donald Sutherland) who reminds residents of the 12 inhabited districts that they’re lives are in the President’s hands by...

Lionsgate isn’t messing around with The Hunger Games, which should be the next big pop movie phenomenon now that Harry’s gone. The company even hired superstars Danny Elfman and T-Bone Burnett to collaborate on the music. Fans of the book know that “Rue’s Song,” in particular, plays a big role in the story. Now comes word from Burnett himself that Jennifer Lawrence (who plays Katniss) will lend her voice to the song. (MTV News) It’s been a longtime since we heard about Fox’s P.T. Barnum biopic, The Greatest Show on Earth (almost two years, actually). Hugh Jackman has been set to star in the film and now he may have a director: Michael Gracey, visual effects man and Disney’s choice for their live-action Snow White project, is attached. It’s a slow moving project, but any movement is good movement, right? Ever the showman,...

After weeks of rumors, Jennifer Lawrence landed Hollywood’s most coveted role for a young actress, that of Katniss Everdeen in Gary Ross’s adaptation of Suzanne Collins’s The Hunger Games. Lawrence was duking it out with 14-year-old Hailee Steinfeld for the part, but watching a 14-year-old play a 17-year-old who kills other teenagers is a lot to take in for your average audience. Both actresses have true grit, but Lawrence’s darker, grittier turn Winter’s Bone (and her age) made her the obvious choice for the part. More details from MTV: According to Lionsgate, the 20-year-old actress is a fitting choice due to her “meteoric ascent” to Hollywood stardom with her Oscar-nominated role in Winter’s Bone, to be followed by roles in Matthew Vaughn’s X Men: First Class and The Beaver, directed by Jodie Foster. Hunger Games author Suzanne Collins has...

While the General Zod and Jonathan Kent casting is still in the rumor phase, Warner Bros. has officially added Diane Lane to the cast of Zack Snyder’s Superman. Lane will play Martha Kent alongside Henry Cavill, who’ll star as Clark Kent a.k.a. Superman. (MTV) There aren’t any frontrunners for the role of Katniss in the upcoming adaptation of teen lit phenomenon The Hunger Games. Lionsgate has said 30 actresses have read for the coveted role, including Oscar nominees Jennifer Lawrence, Hailee Steinfeld, and Abigail Breslin. (EW) Kevin Spacey is set to reteam with his Se7en director, David Fincher, for the TV series House of Cards. No networks are attached, but it won’t take much considering that this will be Fincher’s first foray into television. Spacey will star and executive produce, while Fincher will direct the pilot. (Deadline) New Line’s movie musical Rock of Ages already...
