In my opinion, Catching Fire is easily the best book in The Hunger Games series. The characters, from different generations and each a survivor of a previous Hunger Games competition, come into the story with richer, darker backgrounds. And the location is so much better than just playing in the woods. Of course, there’s also Finnick Odair in this one, which automatically makes it better than any of the other books. Hunger Games: Effie Trinket and Caesar Flickerman in Capitol Couture
The folks over at Lionsgate really know how to use social media in promoting their biggest franchise property: The Hunger Games. (Yep, bigger than Twilight even… thank god.) First it was simply announcing the Catching Fire cast on Facebook, with which was an obvious build up to the biggest announcement, the casting of Sam Claflin as Finnick Odair. No they’re bringing back one of the best campaigns used to promote the first film: Capitol Couture. THE HUNGER GAMES is Lions Gate’s most expensive production… ever
Lions Gate hasn’t had a great few weeks. Warrior opened to $5.2 million last weekend, despite heavy promotion and a ton of preview screenings. Worse though was the $90 million remake of Conan the Barbarian, which barely cracked the $20 million mark at the domestic box office—and it’s been in theaters since Aug. 19. It’s no surprise that Lions Gate’s future may ride on the success of The Hunger Games franchise. And the studio, which has its cash cows like Tyler Perry comedies and the Saw franchise, is going big with the production. The first adaptation of Suzanne Collins’s trilogy will reported cost $100 million ($80 million with tax credits)… the most expensive in the studio’s history.
