THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE Ablaze With Blockbuster Filmmaking

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013) – *** As far as blockbuster sequels go, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is about as good a follow-up as we can expect these days. The Empire Strike Back, it is not. But the second film in The Hunger Games series is great is ways the first film isn’t. And it’s lacking in many ways the first film is. But if there’s one constant between this film and it’s predecessor, it’s the consistently outstanding Jennifer Lawrence. Lawrence returns here as Katniss who is back in District 12 after winning the 74th Hunger Games with her fellow tribute, Peeta (Josh Hutcherson). The pair are getting ready to embark on the annual Victory Tour, when Paneem autocrat President Snow (Donald Sutherland) pays her a visit. After her victory by apparent defiance of the Capitol...

THE HUNGER GAMES Theme Park In The Works, Which Makes Complete Sense

Posted by on Nov 11, 2013 in The Pictures, WTF | 0 comments

It’s a good thing The Hunger Games isn’t in part about the numbing affect of entertainment on the masses, entertainment used by the ruling class to oppress resistance and maintain its grip on power. Thank god it’s not about that at all. Because then a theme park, the most mind-numbing of all entertainment opiates, would seem to stand in the face of the work’s own message. On a conference call with analysts the other day, Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer mentioned that the company had been approached for a Hunger Games theme park. And in a brilliant move, they’re actually working to make it happen. Hypocrisy aside, nothing says family fun like knowing that if you send your kids into the arena, only one of them is going to return. I’d recommend skipping your hotel and going straight to the park so...

HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE Gets A Jaw-Dropping IMAX Poster

Posted by on Oct 31, 2013 in Posters | 0 comments

We’re less than a month away from the release of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, the sequel to the 2011 mega blockbuster. So far the marketing has been above average in both quality and quantity, but nothing could be described as truly astonishing… until now. Yesterday, Badass Digest debuted one of the best posters I’ve ever seen for a major release, promoting Catching Fire‘s IMAX Release. It’s a sublime Baroque piece inspired by the work of Kris Kuksi, who has given the poster his blessing. IMAX and Lionsgate are likely both going the extra mile with this poster, partly because Catching Fire has turned into the studio’s hottest property and partly because without 3D, IMAX screenings will need to make up for the money left on the table. Whatever the reason, we got this truly amazing piece of film artwork. And hopefully a...

Final HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE Trailer Hits The Web!

Posted by on Oct 28, 2013 in Trailers | 0 comments

We’re less than one month away from the release of what will likely be one of the years biggest movies, if not the biggest. And today, we awake to the new, final trailer for the film. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is arguably the best book in the series. (I was reading it during the Arab Spring, though, so real-life revolutions may have added to the book’s affect.) So I’m pretty excited to see badass lady Katniss Everdeen in action on the big screen again. Like Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix, my favorite Potter book and movie, the material is just so good… and cinematic… that it’ll be hard not to make a great movie out of it. May the odds be ever in our favor. ANYWAY, here’s the final trailer in all its glory: The Hunger...

With less than two months until the release of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Lionsgate has debuted the final poster for the blockbuster sequel. It’s not the greatest poster in the history of movie posters, that’s for sure, but you have a fierce Katniss looking fierce. That pretty much gets to the heart of what you’re in for in Catching Fire. If you can’t wait to get your tickets, they’re now on sale at Fandango.com and MovieTickets.com, both of which will give you a free download of the soundtrack tune “Lights” by Phantogram. So lock in your chance to see what will almost certainly be the biggest movie of...
