Christian Bale Is David Fincher’s First Choice For Steve Jobs
You have Aaron Sorkin as your writer. You have David Fincher as your director. And you have Scott Rudin as your producer. How do you take a project that the eyes of the world will be watching and move it to the next level: Hire Christian Bale for the lead. The Wrap is reporting that the Oscar winner is David Fincher’s top choice for the role of Steve Jobs in the upcoming biopic from Sony. Bale, who most recently received an Oscar nomination for his role in American Hustle, is great playing larger-than-life personalities (and he can do an angry outburst like no other). He may have been born to play the great American innovator. I’ve been critical of Christian Bale in the past, because without a proper directorial hand, he can chew the scenery (see The Fighter). But Fincher...
Read MoreDavid Fincher To Direct Aaron Sorkin’s Steve Jobs Script
I never really like the combination of David Fincher and Aaron Sorkin on The Social Network. The pair seemed so different, an aloof auteur director and an energetic auteur writer. But people over 35 at the time really thought the movie was something special because it confirmed all their sad assumptions about Millennials, so the film earned over $220 million at the global box office. Well, it looks like the pair are going to have a chance to take on another tech legend. (Or should I say the tech legend?) Fincher is officially in talks to direct Aaron Sorkin’s Steve Jobs biopic for Sony. The script is said to focus on three long scenes taking place behind the scenes before Apple’s on-stage product launches. Hopefully this structure better lends itself to the meshing of the two styles. Unlike the folks in The...

Director David Fincher may not have won the elusive Oscar for Best Director quite yet, but he’s still wracking up Moonmen after all these years. At last night’s Video Music Awards, Fincher took home his third trophy for Best Direction, this time for Justin Timberlake’s “Suit & Tie” video featuring Jay-Z. Back in the late 80s and early 90s, Fincher was a prolific music video director. He earned two Moonmen back-to-back in 1989 and 1990 for Madonna’s “Express Yourself” and “Vogue,” respectively. And in 1989 he earned three of the four available nominations. While Fincher has only directed six videos since 1992 when he made his feature film debut with Alien3, Fincher’s recent team-up with his The Social Network star proved he’s still got it after all these years… and that Fincher better director a black and white movie someday. I...
Read MoreRosamund Pike is David Fincher’s GONE GIRL
One of the hottest roles in Hollywood for an actress has gone to Rosamund Pike. According to THR, Pike has been offered and will likely accept the starring role opposite Ben Affleck in David Fincher’s Gone Girl. Gone Girl is an adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s best-selling thriller of the same name about a husband who becomes the prime suspect in his wife’s disappearance after she goes missing on their fifth wedding anniversary. Affleck plays the husband and Pike plays the wife. Just in case you might get that confused. THR also reports that Neil Patrick Harris and Tyler Perry are up for supporting roles in the picture. ...

Even though The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo wasn’t the global smash hit Sony was expecting, there’s once again movement on the sequel, The Girl Who Played with Fire. Andrew Kevin Walker, the screenwriter behind Se7en, was quietly hired to rewrite Steve Zaillian’s draft and he’s almost done. Now if Sony can figure out a way to get the super busy David Fincher and Daniel Craig together, we could have a sequel shooting as soon as early 2014. (The Playlist) In other David Fincher movie news, the director and Fox are trying to figure out who will star opposite Ben Affleck in the blockbuster adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl. Abbie Cornish, Olivia Wilde and Julianne Hough have all tested for the part, but the studio and Fincher are also interested in the un-tested Rosamund Pike. (Variety) If you plan on going to see The...
Read MoreEvery trailer for the Gurus of Gold pre-Toronto Oscar predictions
It feels like just yesterday I was ranting writing about how much I didn’t love The Social Network, and how I was happy to see The King’s Speech as the Oscar frontrunner (and eventual Best Picture winner). Oh how quickly time goes by. Well, fellow awards watchers, it’s almost Oscar time again. And the Gurus of Gold are back with their pre-Toronto predictions. I have to put mine together before the start of the fest, too. Until then, you can pass the time by watching all of the available trailers for the Gurus’ top ten predictions: 1.) Steven Spielberg’s War Horse 2.) George Clooney’s The Ides of March 3.) Michel Hazanavicius’ The Artist (Winner of the Best Actor prize at Cannes) 4.) Stephen Daldry’s Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close No trailer yet. What’s up with that WB? 5.) Alexander Payne’s The Descendants 6.) Woody Allen’s...
