Harvey Weinstein and Disney are inexplicably (okay, well, for money) teaming up for an adaptation of the best-selling children’s book series Artemis Fowl. Author Eion Colfer has described the book as “Die Hard” with fairies. We’ll see if that spirit can be brought to the big screen when Harry Potter screenwriter Michael Goldenberg writes the script. (ScreenRant) In other book adaptation news, Sony has won a bidding war with rival studios for the rights to Thomas Sweterlitsch’s sci-fi novel Tomorrow and Tomorrow. The book takes place 10 years after the destruction of Pittsburgh, following one of the survivors who discovers a cover-up around the city’s fall.  Noah Oppenheim will write the screenplay. Spike Lee’s Oldboy, the remake of Chan-wook Park’s cult classic, may be one of the most anticipated and controversial films of the year. But we’ll have to wait a little longer to see it. FilmDistrict has moved the film from its October release date back to November 27. (Badass Digest) Oscar winner Jamie Foxx isn’t done with comic book movies after Spider-Man 2. While this doesn’t come as a huge surprise given just how many of the original actors are returning, John Williams, the man who created the theme for the original Star Wars and the other iconic music in the film series, will return to score J.J. Abrams’s Star Wars: Episode VII. Kathleen Kennedy, the executive in charge of Lucasfilm, announced at Star Wars Celebration Europe that the living legend would compose the much for the upcoming sequel. MTV announced that it was adapting one of the greatest slasher films of all time, Scream, for the small screen about a year ago. And this week at TCA we learned that Jay Beattie and Dan Dworkin have been hired as writers for the show. The pair have previously worked on Revenge, Criminal Minds and The Event. (Variety) NBC is planning a few big event miniseries, including one about the life of Hillary Clinton from the White House to her time as Secretary of State, a new adaptation of The Tommyknockers and an adaptation of Rosemary’s Baby.
