WORLD WAR Z Crosses $500 Million Mark. Brad Pitt Doesn’t Thank Critics.

Posted by on Aug 12, 2013 in Box Office | 0 comments

Looks like Brad Pitt will get the last laugh in the World War Z production saga. Paramount announced that the film has crossed the $500 million mark world wide, making it Brad Pitt’s biggest release ever. It’s also the studio’s biggest release of the year. Yep, even bigger than Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan Into Darkness, which just crossed the $450 million mark. So despite all the haters, Brad Pitt’s movie turned out to be watchable and entertaining enough to overcome the film’s pre-release critics. Of course, using the logic of The Lone Ranger stars and filmmakers, now that the film is successful, Brad Pitt should thank all the critics who rallied around the film after its release. Because, you know, critics are the ones who make or break blockbusters these days....

Vin Diesel In Talks For GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY. Who Is He Playing?

Posted by on Aug 12, 2013 in The Pictures | 0 comments

A few weeks ago, we learned that Vin Diesel was meeting with Marvel for an unknown reason. Speculation online went as far as considering him for the voice of Thanos, which we now know isn’t likely in the cards. Now Deadline is reporting that Diesel is actually in talks to play the character Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy. Groot (pictured below) is an tree-like extraterrestrial who came to earth in order to capture and study humans. In the comics, Groot has been destroyed and the re-created a number of times. With Rocket Raccoon’s help, he was able to regrow once again and joined the Guardians… though I doubt we’ll get into the minutia like that in the movie. So just keep that info in your head. Still, a big wooden character who only says “I am Groot” is right...

Who’s Playing Lex Luthor In BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN? It May Be Down To Two Actors.

Posted by on Aug 9, 2013 in Big News, The Pictures | 10 comments

So we know that there’s a short list of six actors who may play Batman in Batman Vs. Superman, but who’s up for the role of Lex Luthor. Two conflicting rumors have started to circulate that position two distinctly different actors in the role of the evil genius. First, let’s go with the obvious and slightly conventional choice: Mark Strong. Digital Spy is reporting that the Sherlock star has hinted that he may in fact be Lex Luthor. According to the site, when they asked Strong about playing Luthor, Strong responded, “All I can say is… watch this space.” Whatever that means. Strong would be a rather ordinary casting choice for Luthor, and one that would make Luthor slightly older than the presumed Batman actor, who is expected to be in his 40s. Strong also has a history of playing villains in...

What Was Orson Welles’ First Movie? Well, It Wasn’t CITIZEN KANE

Posted by on Aug 9, 2013 in The Pictures | 0 comments

Citizen Kane is often cited as Orson Welles’ first film, but that’s not completely true. Back in 1938, Welles shot and edited the comedy film Too Much Johnson… though it was never completed. The film was intended to be used as part of a theatrical production of William Gillette’s 1894 stage play of the same name. But rights issues and financial trouble doomed the film, which was never shown publicly. The only known print was believed to have burned in a fire at Welles’s Madrid home. A print of the long-lost film, however, was recently re-discovered in an Italian warehouse, and is currently undergoing restoration at the George Eastman House. It’s scheduled to finally see the dark of the theater at Italy’s silent film fest Le Giornate del Cinema Muto on Oct. 9. The film will make it’s U.S. debut at the George...

Watch the New THOR: THE DARK WORLD Trailer

Posted by on Aug 9, 2013 in Trailers | 0 comments

As part of YouTube’s Geek Week, Marvel debuted the full-length trailer for Thor: The Dark World. The tone of the full-trailer seems about right, given the slightly darker take on a Marvel hero we’ve already experienced with Iron Man 3. And because the Russo’s like to talk about “paranoia” and “mistrust” in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, we can only assume this’ll be a trend for the established heroes this time around. After surviving New York, who can blame them for being a little on...

Kevin Feige And Marvel Have A Plan For 2021. Can DC Compete?

Posted by on Aug 8, 2013 in The Pictures | 0 comments

When you stand back and look at what Kevin Feige built at Marvel Studios, you can’t help but get the feeling that you’re watching one of those rare moments in entertainment that will never happen again. That The Avengers was even made is mind-blowing. And an Avengers 2? And 3? Wow. In speaking with Wired, Feige described the complexities of building this cinematic universe, including the first aha moment at Comic Con 2006, when he realized he really could create more than just standalone movies: Inevitably, a fan stood up and asked whether any of the Marvel characters might cross over into each others’ movies, the way they often do in the comic books. “Who knows?” Feige answered. “This is a big new experiment for Marvel. But it’s no coincidence that we have the rights to Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Cap—” and...
