Lee Daniels Commits To The Janis Joplin Biopic; Sets Sights MISS SAIGON
Lee Daniels is coming off the successful release of his civil rights saga, The Butler. But the director is already mapping out his next endeavors. In an interview with THR, Daniels confirmed that he’s going to take the helm of the stalled Janis Joplin biopic with Amy Adams playing the iconic rocker. Given that Adams has already proven her vocal chops in movies like Enchanted and The Muppets, she’s probably as good a choice as any to play Joplin. That’s all well and good, but the more important bit of information to come out of the interview is Daniels still wants to direct an adaptation of Miss Saigon, and he wants to do it after the Joplin biopic. Being the musical whore that I am, I’ve wanted to see a Miss Saigon movie from the moment I saw it on stage. It’s so much better...
Read MoreBen Affleck is Batman in BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN
Ben Affleck, who won an Oscar last year for Argo with former Batman George Clooney, has been tapped to play the Dark Knight in the Man of Steel sequel, Batman Vs. Superman. Warner Bros. golden boy, who at one point was an earlier contender for the Man of Steel directing gig (something I wish would have happened), fits the description we’ve come to accept about the new Batman. He’s older, in his forties, and will likely be able to take on Superman without all of that annoying background. The last thing we need is another origin story. We can go straight into Supes and the Bat slugging it out. Now, I didn’t love Man of Steel. And in truth, I wouldn’t have even put Affleck on my shortlist. However, I really like the guy. He’s an excellent director and anyone who has given me...

In another world, Alex Cox would have directed this movie based off of his own book The President and the Provocateur. But alas, we’ll have to settle for what looks to be a rather earnest, non-Cox (and non-Oliver Stone), version of the JFK assassination. Directed by Peter Landesman from his screenplay, the film boosts a massive acting ensemble including Zac Efron, Billy Bob Thornton, Marcia Gay Harden, and Paul Giamatti as Abraham Zapruder. There are about a dozen or so other actors you’ll know very well in this movie, too. I have no real gauge for how good or bad this movie may be because Landesman is making his feature debut here. It’s a tough topic to get right, and it looks an awful lot like Emilio Estevez’s Bobby, a film about the assassination of JFK’s brother Robert Kennedy. (That movie...
Read MoreThe GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY’s Rocket Raccoon Role Goes To…
Bradley Cooper… According to Latino Review, the Academy Award nominated actor who was once rumored to play Lex Luthor in Man of Steel will finally make his superhero movie debut in Guardians of the Galaxy. While the rest of the cast is already settled, including Vin Diesel as your likely Groot, the only major role left open is the one that director James Gunn called “the heart of the movie”: Rocket Raccoon. Names like Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler have been tossed around as possible contenders. But Cooper may have been James Gunn’s first and only choice. There’s no official confirmation yet, but stay tuned. We could finally know who plays this “mangled little beast” very, very...
Read MoreIs Elizabeth Olsen Marvel’s Scarlet Witch in AVENGERS 2?
Elizabeth Olsen, the talented sister of a pair of less talented twins, is now the frontrunner for the Scarlet Witch in The Avengers: Age of Ultron, according to Bleeding Cool. Word is Saorise Ronan, Joss Whedon’s first choice, turned down the role, leaving it open for the less established, but equally talented Olsen to swoop in to take her place. Anyone who has seen Martha Marcy May Marlene, would agree that Olsen is one hell of an actress, so she’s a welcome addition to this or any cast. And playing a female character for Whedon? Well, there’s no greater claim to pop culture fame than that. Unencumbered by back story (that’s owned by Fox), it should be interesting to see how Olsen’s Scarlet Witch turns out in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe… especially if she, like Quicksilver, ever ends up in Fox’s...
