Bryan Cranston Denies All Of Those Lex Luthor Rumors
It seems like such a long time ago that rumors of Bryan Cranston being cast as Lex Luthor surfaced on the internet, so long that it almost seemed like there must be some truth to it. But in reality, it was only about a week ago when CBN reported that Cranston signed on to play Lex Luthor for as many as six movies. Without an outright denial, that rumor made it all the way to the AP, Yahoo! Movies and Rolling Stone. So it comes with a heavy heart that I have to write this: In an interview with the Boston Globe, Cranston finally denied that he got the role of Supes arch-nemesis in the sequel to Man of Steel. Here’s what he had to say when the Boston Globe confronted him about the rumor: “I’ve heard that too,” he...
Read MoreThe Contenders: Telluride Buzz For 12 YEARS A SLAVE, GRAVITY And PRISONERS
Just as Labor Day weekend marks the official end of summer, the Telluride Film Festival, which wraps up today, marks the official start of Oscar season. Coming out of the festival, it looks like three movies have gained the most momentum. First, Steve McQueen’s follow-up to Shame, 12 Years a Slave, is being called a masterpiece, with Chiwetel Ejiofor scoring big buzz as the film’s star. The no-hold-barred slavery drama is already being touted as the Oscar front-runner, albeit prematurely. If there’s one thing we know about Oscar it’s that movies that sound this good are hard sells to the Academy. I’m saying this sight unseen, of course, but that’s how the Oscar season works, isn’t it? In addition to 12 Years a Slave, the festivals biggest surprise appears to be Prisoners, a missing child drama from French Canadian...
Read MoreARROW Adds To Its Universe: Amanda Waller Will Be In Season Two
Arrow‘s universe just got a little bigger… and badder. According to SpoilerTV, the sixth episode of Arrow‘s second season will include the introduction of villain/anti-hero Amanda Waller. The synopsis also suggests the introduction of A.R.G.U.S., or Advanced Research Group Uniting Super-Humans, a group lead in the New 52 comics by Col. Steve Trevor and Amanda Waller. (How true that part is, we don’t know.) While it’s no surprise that Waller would make an appearance in Arrow, the introduction of A.R.G.U.S. is interesting. Are they also planning to include Trevor? Will this connect up with the long in development Wonder Woman TV series? Moreover, what purpose does A.R.G.U.S. serve without a Justice League? So many nerdy questions that need answered. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Waller in live action DC adaptions. Waller was played by Pam Grier in Smallville, while the 2009 Green Lantern movie featured Angela...
Read MoreSTAR WARS VII Casting Rumors: Alex Pettyfer and Rachel Hurd-Wood Up For Roles
About the only thing we know for certain about the Star Wars VII cast at this point is that Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford are returning, and that the filmmakers are looking for a specific cast of characters for roles in the upcoming blockbuster. Last month, there were rumblings that both Zac Efron and Ryan Gosling were up for parts in the film, Han Solo and Luke Skywalker’s sons. While that doesn’t seem to have panned out, there’s a new pair of less substantial actors being linked to the film. First is Alex Pettyfer, who played Magic Mike’s apprentice in Magic Mike. Pettyfer is up for as yet unnamed role in the film, according to Latino Review, which speculates that he might be taking on the role of Luke’s son instead of Gosling. In addition to Pettyfer, we have Rachel Hurd-Wood....
Read MoreUPDATED: A Spoilery Rumor About AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Hits The Web
Update: You gotta love the internet. As quickly as this rumor hit the web, it was debunked by the folks at Marvel. Now it looks like James Spader has been confirmed as Ultron. Still no word on if it’s a voice only performance or full motion capture, but I’m sure we’ll know soon. Earlier: We all know by now that Joss Whedon’s Avengers sequel is going to play fast and loose with the Marvel cannon. In his Age of Ultron movie, the villain Ultron won’t be created by Hank Pym as he is in the comics. For weeks now, we’ve speculated that Tony Stark would play a role in creating Ultron in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And there have been fanboy rumblings that Jarvis, Stark’s AI manservant, would actually be Ultron. Well, over at Unleash The Fanboy, they’ve got the scoop that not...

One of the greatest things about Netflix streaming is you get to experience shows like Luther, something you’re not likely to have sought out even on BBC America. The psychological thriller about DCI Luther (Idris Elba), a brilliant but hot-headed British cop, investigating some of the most heinous crimes in London.
