Ben Affleck Is “Perfect” For “Tired And Weary” Batman, Says WB Chief

Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara is learning what it takes to be a movie mogul: Kissing the ass of the biggest star in your stable. The WB Chief spoke at an investors conference yesterday, saying that golden boy Ben Affleck is “perfect for the vision” of Batman in the upcoming sequel to Man of Steel. He also described Bats as “kind of tired and weary and seasoned and been doing it for a while.” I’m not sure how much of a compliment that is, really. (“Hey Ben, you look like tired. That’s perfect!”) But as one of the only people in my office (it’s a nerd zone) who defended the choice to make Affleck the new Batman, I’ll take it. I’ve said before that he wasn’t on my short or long list, but I like Ben. He gave us Argo....

Disney Confirms STAR WARS Origin Story Films, Learning Nothing From The Prequels Or X-MEN

Posted by on Sep 13, 2013 in The Pictures | 0 comments

Between the prequels and X-Men‘s ill-fated attempt an Origins series, you would think that Disney would know better. But yesterday at an investor conference, Disney chief financial officer Jay Rasulo told investors that “of all our worries, Star Wars is not one of them.” Why not? Because in a move that totally makes sense unless you actually like movies/Star Wars, Disney is going to ramp up the merchandising machine… with Star Wars origin story films. Rasulo confirmed rumored plans to have a new movie and a boring origin story movie on alternating years. From Variety: Rasulo also noted that one “Star Wars” trilogy film or “origin story film” would also appear on the release schedule each year, starting with the seventh installment in the “Star Wars” saga that J.J. Abrams will direct and Disney releases in 2015. Considering the creative bankruptcy that we’re seeing...

New Potter-Verse Movies On The Way, Courtesy of J.K. Rowling

Well, it was only a matter of time before Warner Bros. went back to the biggest franchise in the movie history for more. In a huge announcement yesterday, timed perfectly for the Bank of America Merrill Lynch 2013 Media, Communications & Entertainment Conference, Warner Bros. said that J.K. Rowling herself will write the screenplay for an adaptation of her 2009 spinoff book Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them by Newt Scamander.  From the press release: “Although it will be set in the worldwide community of witches and wizards where I was so happy for seventeen years, ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ is neither a prequel nor a sequel to the Harry Potter series, but an extension of the wizarding world,” said Rowling. “The laws and customs of the hidden magical society will be familiar to anyone who has read...

This ROBOCOP Remake Poster Will Make You Feel Sorry For Everyone Involved

Posted by on Sep 12, 2013 in Posters | 0 comments

Sigh. First it was a wholly uninspired trailer. Now it’s a wholly uninspired poster. I’m really starting to feel sorry for everyone involved with the RoboCop remake. (Except for the executives who greenlit the damn thing.) I mean, this poster sells RoboCop like he’s a car or a gadget, not the cop of the some dystopian corporate future. Of course, the whole marketing scheme right now feels like a parody commercial from Verhoeven’s original, so at least we can all sit back and laugh at it… to hide the tears. Source:...

ESCAPE FROM TOMORROW Gets A Trailer

Posted by on Sep 12, 2013 in Trailers | 0 comments

If you haven’t heard about Escape from Tomorrow, well, where the hell have you been? The film premiered earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival and on the festival circut is where we thought it would stay. Why? Nobody thought the idea of a film clandestinely shot inside Disney World and Disney Land would ever see the light of day, especially one that uses Disney iconography to illustrate a demented man’s descent into madness. And yet… we have  at trailer. Escape from Tomorrow certainly a ballsy little movie and the people who have seen it have called it one of the year’s best. It looks like David Lynch, David Cronenberg and Salvador Dali combined forces and made a movie at Disney parks. That alone makes me want to see it. That’s if it ever has a commercial...

What’s This JURASSIC WORLD All About? Maybe This Pitch Reel Has The Answer

Posted by on Sep 12, 2013 in The Pictures | 0 comments

Just the title Jurassic World, the planned sequel/reboot to the Jurassic Park franchise, had visions of World War D dancing around in my head. The title certainly makes it sound like the dinos have made it off the island. Well, a two-year-old pitch trailer has popped up online and shows that the original concept for Jurassic World was just that: A dino-pocalypse. The trailer, which was shown to audiences at Star Wars Celebration Europe last July and… well… it’s pretty amazing. Let’s hope that director Colin Trevorrow and writer Derek Connolly follow through on the concept. It’s really the movie we wanted to see all along, right? Source:...
