Batfleck To Direct Africa-Based Geopolitical Thriller For Warner Bros.
While Ben Affleck is busy filming David Fincher’s adaptation of Gone Girl and prepping to play the Bat in Zack Snyder’s Batman Vs. Superman, that’s not stopping Warner Bros.’ s golden boy from directing another motion picture for the studio. Affleck is next set to helm an Africa-based geopolitical thriller about a group of mercenaries who are hired to assassinate a warlord that is killing his own people. The untitled project, which Deadline refers to as “big-scale,” will be scripted by Will Staples. Affleck is also set to star. Because Affleck has yet to make a bad movie, in fact you could say he’s only directed great movies, this film, whenever it comes out, will be an instant must-see. And honestly, I’m more excited for this than that Batman/Superman movie. As a director who keeps topping himself with each subsequent picture,...

We’re less than one month away from the release of what will likely be one of the years biggest movies, if not the biggest. And today, we awake to the new, final trailer for the film. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is arguably the best book in the series. (I was reading it during the Arab Spring, though, so real-life revolutions may have added to the book’s affect.) So I’m pretty excited to see badass lady Katniss Everdeen in action on the big screen again. Like Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix, my favorite Potter book and movie, the material is just so good… and cinematic… that it’ll be hard not to make a great movie out of it. May the odds be ever in our favor. ANYWAY, here’s the final trailer in all its glory: The Hunger...
Read MoreThe MORTAL KOMBAT Movie Reboot Needs A New Director
Our great hope of seeing a big screen reboot with the Mortal Kombat: Rebirth and Legacy director at the helm have been dashed. Kevin Tancharoen, the man who turned a fan film into two seasons of a Mortal Kombat web series, took to Twitter to let fans know that he’s finished. After 3 years of Kombat,I’ve decided to move on to other creative opportunities. I wish everyone involved in the movie big success. Thanks! — Kevin Tancharoen (@KTANCH) October 25, 2013 There’s no explanation given as to why Tancharoen dropped out, but fans should certainly mourn this loss. He’s the whole reason we’re even talking about the possibility of a new Mortal Kombat movie. After all, Tancharoen’s web series gave new life to a franchise that has had little success in cinemas. (Though, one could argue that Mortal Kombat: Annihilation is one of the best bad movies you’ll ever see.) So...
Read MoreBen Affleck Was “Reluctant” To Play Batman
To all the fans who weren’t sold on Ben Affleck doning the cape and cowl, even the actor was hesitant about taking on the iconic DC comic character in Batman Vs. Superman. In speaking with 411mania.com, Affleck described how he finally came to the decision to play the Bat in Zack Snyder’s upcoming sequel to Man of Steel: Initially I was reluctant as I felt I didn’t fit the traditional mold but once Zack showed me the concept, and that it would be both different from the great movies that Chris and Christian made but still in keeping with tradition I was excited. Doing something different and new is always tricky and part of the thrill and the risk is that initially it confounds expectations. The truth is, it’s the movie and the execution of it is what all...
Read MoreCAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER Trailer Debuts
With the release of Thor: The Dark World just a couple weeks away, we expected to see a trailer for Captain American: The Winter Soldier. I would have guessed that it would have debuted a little closer to Thor. But here it is in all it’s glory. Looking pretty big and badass, the trailer certainly implies that we’ll see the Captain’s patriotic do-gooder nature challenge pretty hard. Plus, there’s a little Seb Stan tease, and I’ll take what ever I can get. Enjoy: Captain America: The Winter Solider hits theaters on April 4,...
Read MoreStanley Kubrick Wanted Terry Gilliam To Direct A DR. STRANGELOVE Sequel. Seriously.
Would you believe that Stanley Kubrick wanted to make a sequel to Dr. Strangelove? Well, it could have happened, and Kubrick set his sights on Brazil‘s Terry Gilliam to direct the picture. This little bit of trivia was dropped in Twitch Film’s lap when speaking with Gilliam at the Sitges Film Festival. From Twitch: I was told after Kubrick died – by someone who had been dealing with him – that he had been interested in trying to do another Strangelove with me directing. I never knew about that until after he died but I would have loved to Terry Southern, who wrote the script for Strangelove, even started working on an outline for the film, which would have been titled Son of Strangelove. I loved A.I., but if I had to choose, I would have rather seen Gilliam take on a post-Reagan...
