HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE Gets A Jaw-Dropping IMAX Poster

Posted by on Oct 31, 2013 in Posters | 0 comments

We’re less than a month away from the release of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, the sequel to the 2011 mega blockbuster. So far the marketing has been above average in both quality and quantity, but nothing could be described as truly astonishing… until now. Yesterday, Badass Digest debuted one of the best posters I’ve ever seen for a major release, promoting Catching Fire‘s IMAX Release. It’s a sublime Baroque piece inspired by the work of Kris Kuksi, who has given the poster his blessing. IMAX and Lionsgate are likely both going the extra mile with this poster, partly because Catching Fire has turned into the studio’s hottest property and partly because without 3D, IMAX screenings will need to make up for the money left on the table. Whatever the reason, we got this truly amazing piece of film artwork. And hopefully a...

Aaron Taylor-Johnson is OFFICIALLY Quicksilver in AVENGERS 2

Posted by on Oct 31, 2013 in The Pictures | 0 comments

Believe it or not, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who has been rumored since June and unofficially confirmed since the beginning of the month to play Quicksilver in The Avengers: Age of Ultron, wasn’t even signed for the film. Until yesterday that is. According to the Wrap, ATJ, who is pretty much already Quicksilver in most minds, closed the deal yesterday, after working his publicity schedule for the upcoming WB monster movie Godzilla around the shooting schedule for Avengers.  Now, Marvel hasn’t confirmed the report, but the Wrap is solid source, so an announcement from the studio is likely imminent. Pretty kick...

NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD: Why the Classic Still Holds Up

Posted by on Oct 29, 2013 in Commentary, The Pictures | 0 comments

Seeing a beloved classic or just a personal favorite replayed on a big screen years after its actual theatrical release can be like getting stuck in a cinematic time warp of sorts. We have come so far in our movie-making abilities that sometimes these older films come across like fossils or time capsules, evoking a strange combination of nostalgia, reverence, and laughter. Seeing George A. Romero’s 1968 masterpiece Night of the Living Dead in a small but beautiful art house movie theater was, on one level, such an experience. In our current zombie-obsessed pop cultural moment, the visual effects and archaic aims for suspense can come across as humorous; I was in no way offended at people’s laughter at certain moments that The Walking Dead would put to dramatic and gory shame, with its arsenal of modern violence and makeup....

Ben Kinsley’s Super Secret Marvel One-Shot May Have The Real Mandarin

Posted by on Oct 29, 2013 in The Pictures | 9 comments

Last week, Ben Kinsley revealed that he was working on a super secret Marvel project to the Belfast Telegraph. It was presumed at that point that Sir Ben was working on a Marvel One-Shot, one that possibly involved the Mandarin. Well, the good folks over at t Latino Review may have figured out what Kingsley and Marvel are really up to, and it sounds amazing. We all know that Marvel diehards were not happy with the portrayal of the Mandarin in Iron Man 3. Obviously, it was the only way to really introduce the character into a cinematic world, but fanboys be crazy. Marvel may have heard them loud and clear thought and the super secret Marvel project Ben Kinsley is working on may in fact be a Marvel One-Shot involving the real Mandarin. Basically, the real villain is upset about...

Scorsese’s WOLF OF WALL STREET Will Get A Christmas Day Release

Posted by on Oct 29, 2013 in The Pictures | 0 comments

Ah, nothing says Merry Christmas like fraudulent investments. They are the gifts that keep on giving after all. Still, it’s good news for Martin Scorsese and Paramount Pictures that, after publicly acknowledging that The Wolf of Wall Street wouldn’t hit its November release date because of a spat over the length of the picture, the Leonardo DiCaprio starrer will hit theaters in 2014 after all. Paramount made it official today, with Deadline reporting they have staked their claim on Dec. 25 for the latest Scorsese-DiCaprio collaboration. This means that after much speculation the film will be released in 2013 in time for Oscar. Does this shake up a race? Probably not much with 12 Years a Slave and Gravity way out in front at this point. But never underestimate the power of Martin...

Harrison Ford has been the lone Star Wars VII hold out from the original trio of Luke, Leia and Han. As of two weeks ago even, Ford had yet to sign on the for the film and public stated he was “undecided” appearing in the sequel trilogy. Today comes a report by way of JediNews that Harrison Ford is one signature away from appearing again as Han Solo in multi film deal that exceeds just Star Wars VII. But part of that deal could also mean that we’re going to get an Indiana Jones 5… whether we want it or not. According to the site: Ford wanted a commitment to Indy 5. He did not get this as there is no plot line or script in place. What did happen was an agreement was made wherein an outline would be developed by the...
