Think you’re a true cinephile? Well, every year Sight & Sound releases its list of top movies from an annual poll of critics, curators and academics. And every year, they make people who enjoy films like Frozen feel inadequate. The good news, however, is that most of these films will be or are available streaming so you can catch up next year when people outside of New York City, London and Paris get to see these flicks. ANYWAY, on to the top ten list: The Act of Killing Gravity Blue Is the Warmest Color The Great Beauty Frances Ha (Streaming Now on Netflix) A Touch of Sin Upstream Color (Streaming Now on Netflix) The Selfish Giant Norte, the End of History Stranger by the Lake Only one of these movies will likely be on my top ten list, and it’ll nearly as...

Given Hollywood’s obsession with reboots, it’s not that crazy to think that Jurassic World, the follow-up to Jurassic Park directed by Colin Trevorrow, would be a reboot rather than a sequel. But in fact, it may be a combination of both. When Twitterer @pcbains916 asked Trevorrow whether Jurassic World was in fact a reboot, Trevorrow responded with this vague, but informative, answer: @pfcbains916 Reboot is a strong word. This is a new sci-fi terror adventure set 22 years after the horrific events of Jurassic Park. — Colin Trevorrow (@colintrevorrow) November 23, 2013 So is it a reboot? Or a sequel? It seems like it might have more in common with the semi-reboot of the X-Men franchise X-Men: First Class or the next Transformers movie than it does a strict franchise relaunch like Nolan’s Batman movies. But we at least know it takes place in the same universe...

“Trust me. You do not what to have to get a nose job in Montana.” Ah, Daniel Waters. How I’ve missed you. Daniel and his brother Mark have teamed up for an adaptation of Richelle Mead’s best-seller Vampire Academy, and as I’ve said before, this is probably the only time you’ll ever see me excited for a teen vamp romance adaptation (well, outside of Vampire Diaries). In the latest trailer, we get a better idea of just exactly what the movie is about, but it’s the oh-so-quotable dialog that’s going to get us in the theaters. Check it...

Marvel and X-Men both have their own cinematic universes at Disney and Fox, respectively. And Sony Pictures doesn’t want to be left out of the action. The studio’s Entertainment chief Michael Lynton to analysts yesterday that there was a bigger Spidey-verse in the works, which hero and villain spin-offs from the current The Amazing Spider-Man iteration, saying: “We do very much have the ambition about creating a bigger universe around Spider-Man. There are a number of scripts in the works” With the success of Marvel’s The Avengers, it only makes sense that studios would milk their superhero cash cows, especially when there are so many heroes and villains at their disposal. Fox was the first to catch on to the Marvel formula and has turned X-Men into a cohesive universe even across time periods. And Sony is well on their way, with teases of...

The good folks over at Odd City Entertainment are paying tribute to Bryan Singer’s 1995 masterpiece The Usual Suspects with limited run screen prints by UK artist Matt Ferguson. Ferguson, who has worked for Marvel Studios and created promo artwork for Chronicle and World War Z, was chosen here for his minimalist style that comes with an eye for detail. Here’s what Ferguson had to say about his work here: “From the beginning of the concept the design was very much a collaborative effort. I am used to working by myself so it was really cool to bounce off someone else and use their feedback to create something special. With this particular poster I really pushed myself in terms of the level of detail I would normally put into a screen print. I used some interesting techniques, especially within the fire elements to...
