The VERONICA MARS Movie Gets An Official Release Date

Posted by on Dec 7, 2013 in The Pictures, The Tube | 0 comments

As someone who contributed to the Veronica Mars kickstarter ($1. What! What!), I’m eagerly awaiting the Veronica Mars movie as much as the next geek.  Now Warner Bros. has made it official, the film by Rob Thomas and starring Kristen Bell will hit theaters in select cities on March 14, 2014. The film’s website actually broke the news first on Wednesday, but WB didn’t get around to confirming until yesterday. But isn’t that as it should be? I mean, the movie already went direct to fans for funding. Why not direct to fans for news about the production? Source:...

Spike Jonze’s HER Named Best Picture Of 2013 By NBR

Posted by on Dec 5, 2013 in Awards | 0 comments

The National Board of Review is usually lock step with the AMPAS, picking a movie that either wins or is nominated for the Best Picture Oscar. So either Spike Jonze’s Her got a big Oscar boost yesterday after being named Best Picture by the awards body, or it’s going to go the way of Quills. Given that Mr. Jonze has never seen one of his masterpieces nominated for Oscar, mostly seeing his actors get all the accolades, we may be looking at the latter. In addition to Her, both Bruce Dern and Will Forte got boosts for Nebraska. That could mean that Alexander Payne’s streak of Best Actor nominees will keep going for another film in a row. (His last three all landed their leads an Oscar nod.) Who else got a boost yesterday? Well, here’s the full list of winners: Best...

Wonder Woman Officially Joins BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN

Posted by on Dec 5, 2013 in Big News, The Pictures | 0 comments

The rumors have been swirling for weeks and now we finally know Wonder Woman will appear in the upcoming sequel to Man of Steel. Zack Snyder made it official, announcing that Gal Gadot of The Fast and the Furious franchise will play the iconic female superhero. In a statement, first reported on Deadline, Snyder said: Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe. Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character. Previously it was reported that Thor star Jaimie Alexander was in talks with Warner Bros. about the character, though not necessary for casting. And Olga Kurylenko was...

FEAST Writers To Adapt SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK For CBS Films

Posted by on Dec 4, 2013 in The Pictures | 0 comments

All proper 80s and early-90s kids remember Alvin Schwartz’s Scary Stories series. The short story collections published in 1981, 1984 and 1991 were the height of awesome mostly for those creepy illustrations, which also got the book in hot water with parents groups. Still, most of us who were around during the Scary Stories years have a soft spot for the books after all the years. Which brings us to today, when we learned that Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan’s pitch to adapt the Scary Stories series into a motion picture has been picked up by CBS films. According to Deadline: The project… will see Melton and Dunstan adapt some of the Scary short stories into a screenplay about a group of outcast kids who stand up to their fears to save their town when nightmares come to life. Now, I know some people might be...

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 Banner Reveals The Green Goblin, Rhino

Posted by on Dec 3, 2013 in The Pictures | 0 comments

If I haven’t made it very clear, I’m in no way a fan of The Amazing Spider-Man. But given the choice between it and Man of Steel, another superhero movie that’s two hours of exposition for a sequel, I’d choose to rewatch ASM anyday. I’m also much more interested in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 because, unlike Man of Steel, that movie made me walk out of the theater with the desire to see a sequel. So here we are, just under six months away from ASM2‘s release and the Sony marketing machine is going to seriously start picking up. Over on the movie’s official Twitter, they release the poster above, a triptych featuring our first glimpses of Rhino‘s cinematic incarnation on the right and the Green Goblin in the center. Electro’s there of course, but we’ve already seen a lot of him. And courtesy of AICN,...

NYFCC Selects AMERICAN HUSTLE As Best Picture of 2013

Posted by on Dec 3, 2013 in Awards | 0 comments

Did the New York Film Critics Circle just give us a glimpse into Oscar future? The org’s picks for Best Picture lined up with Oscar less than 50 percent of the time in the last 10 years, but it’s the split between Best Picture and Best Director from today’s awards announcement that I’m staring at here. David O. Russell’s much more Oscar friendly American Hustle took home the award for Best Picture from the NYFCC, which is the first of many Oscar precursors to come. But Steve McQueen, whose 12 Years a Slave is being touted as the frontrunner at the moment, took home the Best Director award. That’s split, the mainstream choice for picture and the more “artistic” choice for director is a common one. (Artistic in quotes because I kind of hate 12 Years a Slave.) ANYWAY, here’s the full...
