Warner Bros. Enlists ARGO Scribe Chris Terrio For BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN
There were so many great things about Argo that it’s hard to pin point the one thing that just made the film. The direction. The editing. The script. Ah, yes, that script. Chris Terrio, on what is basically his first film, won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay. Not a bad way to start your career as a screenwriter. Of course, one of the major weaknesses of both The Dark Knight Trilogy and Man of Steel was the David Goyer screenplay. Thankfully someone at Warner Bros. knows what he’s doing (Ben Affleck, I’m looking in your direction) because Oscar winner Terrio is coming on board to rewrite what I can only assume is pure Goyer drivel in order to make Batman Vs. Superman into a coherent film. It’s a big challenge, for sure. Something I’m quite confident in saying Goyer was not up to. Managing so...

While I do a lot of awards watching here, there’s one end of the year list that I look forward to more than any other: The Library of Congress’ list of National Film Registry additions. This year, Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction, easily one of the greatest motion pictures ever made, finally makes the list, along with classics like Gilda, Mary Poppins and The Right Stuff. As always, lesser known arthouse fare like Decasia, the most recently released film ever added to the NFR, as well as cult faves like Forbidden Planet, will also be preserved alongside those immortal classics. Here’s the full list of this year’s selections: Bless Their Little Hearts (1984) Brandy in the Wilderness (1969) Cicero March (1966) Daughter of Dawn (1920) Decasia (2002) Ella Cinders (1926) Forbidden Planet (1956) Gilda (1946) The Hole (1962) Judgment at Nuremberg (1961) King of Jazz (1930) The Lunch Date...

December is always an exciting time for movies; you have your Oscar bait trying to wriggle into theaters just in time for awards season, and therefore a whole slew of American cinema’s best and brightest, or so the marketing will lead audiences to believe. Then, you have your Christmas releases, which are usually some mixture of the award favorites and straightforward fun fare. Then we get to January, where movie choices are usually oddly limited, as if Hollywood and moviegoers feel winded from everything I’ve just mentioned and need a month break. Maybe this is just my skewed perspective, but it cannot just be a matter of coincidence or imagination that my late-January birthday was always spent wishing there was something better in the movies to see with friends for the occasion than Underworld: Evolution or No Strings Attached....

It came down to Emilia Clarke and Brie Larson. But in the end the Games of Thrones actress, mother of dragons and queen of geeks Clarke was chosen to play Sarah Connor in the franchise relaunch and fifth installment of the Terminator series, Terminator: Genisis. Skydance, Annapurna and Paramount made it official on Friday, with Deadline reporting the breakout star of HBO’s biggest series would take over the iconic role. She’ll be the third actress to officially play Sarah Connor, following Linda Hamilton, who originated the role, and Lena Headey, who played Connor in the short-lived TV series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Of course, the production companies are looking for the sixth actor to play John Connor, as well. Right now, Deadline says that Jason Clarke of Zero Dark Thirty is in negotiations for the role that will have John and Sarah meet up...
Read MoreSandra Bullock To Reteam With George Clooney For OUR BRAND IS CRISIS?
The only thing standing in between Sandra Bullock and Oscar for her role in Gravity is, well, Cate Blanchett. Still that fruitful collaboration with George Clooney in the Alfonso Cuarón space thriller may not be the last time the two stars work together. Bullock is reportedly in talks for the George Clooney-produced adaptation of the documentary Our Brand is Crisis. That doc explores the American-style political campaign tactics that were employeed in the 2002 election of Bolivian president Evo Morales. But don’t take it too seriously, kids. Not the rumor. The subject matter. It’s a comedy. Hopefully George can get In the Loop and Veep mastermind Armando Iannucci to come on board to direct, since George isn’t expected to. The political comedy premise is right up his...

Not one month ago did we learn that Sony had big plans for a Cinematic Spidey-verse. Now we’re getting a clearer, more official picture of just how this grand plan will play out. Sony has announced that it has hired a group of writers and directors to shepherd characters along on the path to an expanded universe. Following in the footsteps of Marvel and Fox’s X-Men, Sony will launch pictures around some of the most memorable characters from the Spider-Man comics, including the Sinister Six (as was previously rumored) and Venom. The Venom picture will be written by Transformers and Star Trek scribes Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, as well as Men in Black screenwriter Ed Solomon. Kurtzman is set to helm the picture, in only his second outing as a film director. On the Sinister Six side of things, Whedon-ite and recently announced Daredevil writer/producer...
