DALLAS BUYERS CLUB’s 20-Year Journey To The Screen

Posted by on Jan 1, 2014 in The Pictures | 0 comments

Talent, persistence and luck. That’s what it took to get Dallas Buyers Club movie made. For over 20 years, Craig Borten worked to make his dream a reality. It all started with a trip from Los Angeles to Dallas, Texas, to meet Ron Woodroof. At the time, Borten wasn’t sure if he even wanted to make movies, let alone what types of films to make. The rest, as they say, is history. What made Woodroof’s story interesting was that he was homophobic, a real man’s man, but he was diagnosed with AIDS back in 1986. He talked and Borten recorded the conversations. Woodroof would die soon later – just in his 40s – but his story stuck with Borten. He wasn’t sure what he was going to do, but he knew he had something that was powerful and might...

FAST & FURIOUS 7 Gets A Release Date

Posted by on Dec 23, 2013 in The Pictures | 0 comments

After Paul Walker’s tragic death in a fiery car wreck, a lot of people I know and respect told me that I needed to revisit The Fast & The Furious franchise. They specifically pointed out films 5 and 6 as movies that I just had to see, even comparing them to Die Hard in terms of action artistry. I’ll probably watch them over the lazy days between Christmas and New Year’s while I catch up on all the 2013 films I still haven’t seen. But with yesterday’s announcement on Vin Diesel‘s Facebook page, I’ll have one more reason to sit down and watch. Diesel told his fans that Fast & Furious 7 would join the likes of Jurassic Park 4, The Avengers 2 and Batman Vs. Superman in 2015, with a planned release date of April 10. Yep, another blockbuster franchise and joined the heap!  What a year it’s...

Rogue’s Out Again! Anna Paquin Scene Cut From X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST

Posted by on Dec 21, 2013 in The Pictures | 0 comments

Poor Anna Paquin. She was this close to appearing as Rogue in The Wolverine. And now it looks like everyone’s favorite mutant (and by everyone, I mean mine) is once again out of the picture. According the EW, Bryan Singer has revealed that Paquin’s screen time has been reduced significantly in the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past after a rescue sequence hit the cutting room floor: Through the editing process, the sequence became extraneous… It’s a really good sequence and it will probably end up on the DVD so people can see it. But like many things in the editing process, it was an embarrassment of riches and it was just one of the things that had to go. Unfortunately, it was the one and only sequence Anna Paquin was in, the Rogue character was in. Even though she’s in the materials...

Christmas Morning Through The Lens Of Wes Anderson, Martin Scorsese And More!

Posted by on Dec 21, 2013 in The Pictures, The Web | 1 comment

Did you ever wonder what a Lars Von Trier Christmas movie would look like? Me either. That is until the good folks over at Four Ground Media put together a sampling of Christmas morning scenes as if they were directed by some of world’s leading filmmakers in The Auteurs of Christmas. There’s Steven Spielberg with a heart warming family moments (including a big hug from dad), Woody Allen with a minute of kvetching about parade traffic backups, and Werner Herzog with a narration of a family opening presents as a metaphor for the current state of the economy. And yes, Martin Scorsese and Wes Anderson are there, too. Lar Von Trier’s my favorite bit. But Baz Luhrmann is a close second. Watch and let us know which one is your...

Joaquin Phoenix Courted For A Villain Role in BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN!!

Posted by on Dec 19, 2013 in The Pictures | 0 comments

On the heels of news that Argo’s Chris Terrio will rewrite what I can only assume is David Goyer’s depressingly awful Batman Vs. Superman script, we now have word that one of the best actors working in cinema today, Joaquin Phoenix, is up for the role of the baddie in the Man of Steel sequel. We can only assume that Phoenix would be playing Lex Luthor, at least until there’s official word otherwise. Usually, I’d balk at the idea of adding Luthor, but if Phoenix is playing him, I’ll bite. Of course, this assumes that Phoenix, who currently stars in the Golden Globe nominated film Her, takes the role. Phoenix has been twice offered comic book movie roles, most notably that of the Joker in The Dark Knight, and has twice declined. But he wasn’t being courted to star in a movie with his I’m Not Here...

Paul Rudd is ANT-MAN

Posted by on Dec 19, 2013 in Big News, The Pictures | 0 comments

UPDATE: It’s official! THR has reports that Marvel confirmed Paul Rudd is Ant-Man! PREVIOUSLY: A few weeks ago we learned that Marvel was closing in on either Joseph Gordon-Levitt or Paul Rudd for the role of Hank Pym in Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man. Now it looks like Marvel has selected Paul Rudd as the miniaturizing superhero. Way back when the shortlist was uncovered, I said that Rudd just feels more like a Marvel hero than JGL. He’s was the obvious choice. So I can’t imagine that Joseph Gordon-Levitt being busy with other things (which I won’t mention here because I refuse to acknowledge that it’s happening) was really the reason they went with Rudd. There really was no alternative when you look at the stable of cinematic heroes. Now, The Wrap’s report mentions this isn’t a completely done deal. They are still in negotiations. But at...
