BUFFY Writer To Script TOMB RAIDER Reboot – Big 6 Morning Report

Posted by on Jun 13, 2013 in Big News, The Big 6, The Pictures | 0 comments

In what may be the smartest hire ever for a video game adaptation (short of that brief period where Romero was involved with Resident Evil), writer Marti Noxon of Buffy the Vampire series fame has been tapped by MGM to script a reboot of Tomb Raider. A little bit of Buffy could go a long way to reviving Lara Croft and the Tomb Raider film franchise. (Variety)  Speaking of Buffy, Joss Whedon is talking Avengers 2 again and this time he suggests that the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Phase II, may be all standalone movies. (Bleeding Cool) The sun will come out tomorrow for Sandra Bullock. She’s in early talks to play the Miss Hannigan character in Will Smith snd Jay-Z’s adaptation of the musical Annie, which already stars Quvenzhane Wallis in the title role and Jamie Foxx as a Daddy Warbucks-type character. (The Wrap) Tom Hanks and...

There’s TERMINATOR 5 Movement at Paramount – Big 6 Morning Report

Posted by on Jun 12, 2013 in Big News, The Big 6, The Pictures | 0 comments

We’ve heard a lot about Terminator 5 in the past year. We know that Arnold will be back and that the script is being written by Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier (Lussier being behind some of the best bad movies in recent years from Jason X to Drive Angry 3D). Now we also know that Paramount will be involved, too. The studio and the production companies Skydance and Annapurna Productions are in negotiations to have Paramount distribute the new film. (AICN) Speaking of franchise sequels at Paramount, the studio has tapped director Justin Lin to return for G.I. Joe 3.  No word yet on the cast, but since Dwayne Johnson is pretty much box office gold these days, Paramount will likely do whatever they can to get him back, t00. (The Playlist) Oh, but that’s not all from Paramount. The studio will again partner...

MAN OF STEEL Sequel Fast-Tracked at WB. But Who’s Returning? – Big 6 Morning Report

Posted by on Jun 11, 2013 in Big News, The Big 6, The Pictures, The Tube | 1 comment

Here’s something that should come as no surprise considering how much money Man of Steel is likely to make: Warner Bros. has put a sequel to the Superman reboot on the fast-track for production. Zack Snyder will be back to direct with David Goyer on board as the writer, as part of his three-picture deal for two Supermen movies and a Justice League picture. Christopher Nolan, however (and thankfully), isn’t expected to be as involved in the sequels as he was in Man Of Steel. No word yet on a release date. (Deadline) Want an Xbox One or a Playstation 4? Well, both systems are now available for pre-order now. (Xbox, Playstation) Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones tied for Best Drama Series last night at the BFCA Critics’ Choice TV Awards.  Bryan Cranston also won Best Actor in a Drama Series for his...

J.J. Abrams on STAR WARS 7 – Big 6 Morning Report

Posted by on Jun 10, 2013 in Big News, The Big 6, The Pictures | 0 comments

J.J. Abrams told Produced By conference attendees that Star Wars 7 filming will start in early 2014 in London.  As for his approach, Abrams had this to say: “It is so massive and so important to people … I think the key to moving forward on something like this is honoring but not revering what came before.” (THR) The Purge starring Ethan Hawke was the surprise winner at the weekend box office, taking in $36 million while the Vince Vaughn/Owen Wilson comedy The Internship flopped, coming in at No. 4 and only taking in $18 million. (Box Office Mojo) At the specialty box office, Joss Whedon’s Much Ado About Nothing broke the house record at the Film Society at Lincoln Center, where it opened on Friday. I’m sure his Evening with Joss Whedon talk there last week didn’t hurt things. The film expands throughout...

MAN OF STEEL Flying Toward $100 Million Opening? – Big 6 Morning Report

Posted by on Jun 7, 2013 in Big News, The Big 6, The Pictures, The Tube | 5 comments

How big will the Man Of Steel be? That’s the question that Warner Bros. is asking itself as it tries to revive the iconic superhero on film. Well, early tracking has Superman flying toward a $100 million opening weekend and ending with more than $300 million. That’s not Iron Man 3 or The Dark Knight money, but it certainly looks better than the $100 million 7-day opening of Superman Returns had over the 4th of July in 2006. (Variety) One film that’s already proven its box office power is Fast & Furious 6. The film should pass $500 million at the worldwide box office today. Can it beat the $626 million of Fast Five? All signs point to yes right now. Who should play Dr. Who? HitFix put together it’s list of 12 dream replacements for Matt Smith, who is exiting the long-running sci-fi series. Helen Mirren?...

Paramount Gets Control Over FRIDAY THE 13TH Franchise in INTERSELLAR Deal – Big 6 Morning Report

Posted by on Jun 6, 2013 in Big News, The Big 6, The Pictures, The Tube | 0 comments

Word came out yesterday that Warner Bros., the studio behind Christopher Nolan’s Inception and Dark Knight trilogy, desperately wanted to be a part of Nolan’s Interstellar over at Paramount. How desperate? Well, they gave up the rights to one of the most lucrative horror franchises in movie history: Friday the 13th. The rights issues behind this franchise are ugly and there are a lot of stakeholders, but now there’s one less group to worry about. Now, Paramount, bring on a re-release of Friday the 13th 3D! (AICN)  If you’re a Star Trek original series fan and planning to see The Purge this weekend, you’re going to see something that might be a little familiar.  Director James DeMonaco said that an episode of the original series titled “Return of the Archons” where a supercomputer allows the citizens he rules to rape and kill ever day at...
