Just about a week after Warner Bros. dropped plans for a sequel to the classic comedy Dumb and Dumber, Universal has swooped in like an owl to snag the franchise. The studio has closed a deal to distribute Dumb and Dumber To, which unlike the 2003 prequel will have the Farrelly brothers, Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels all involved. Because Marvel staked its claim to the first weekend in May in 2015 and 2016, The Amazing Spider-Man lost its chance to become the first blockbuster of the summer in 2016. Well, Sony announced yesterday the release dates for The Amazing-Spider-Man 3 & 4, for June 10, 2016, and May 4, 2018, respectively. That 2018 release may be the earliest official release date I’ve ever seen, but Sony is leaving nothing to chance with its most lucrative franchise. JURASSIC PARK 4 Now on Track for 2015 Release – Big 6 Morning Report
A few weeks ago, Universal put its plans for a fourth Jurassic Park movie on hold after an ambitious Summer 2014 opening turned out to overly ambitious. At the time, no new release information was provided making it seem like the project was permanently on hold. Thankfully, it now looks like Universal’s Colin Trevorrow-directed Jurassic Park 4 is on track for at 2015 release. (Den of Geek) Man of Steel proved Superman still had box office superpowers this weekend, opening to $125 million with $113 million over the 3-day weekend. That’s enough to give Man of Steel the biggest June opening of all time. (Deadline) Even though moviegoers flock to Man of Steel, not everyone was happy.
