Indie Alert: WHAT’S UP LOVELY trailer
When I reviewed indie director Gary King’s New York Lately, I said his first feature was either too ambitious or not ambitious enough. If it was too ambitious, then King appears to have remedied that with What’s Up Lovely. King (who you can and should follow on Twitter at @grking) is taking the “one girl, one night” approach with this film, which means maybe that ambition thing is being checked a bit. Of course, the trailer also says What’s Up Lovely is part one in “the loneliness trilogy,” so maybe managed is a better word than checked. Regardless, I’m eager to see this one. Read MoreGiving Thanks
Maybe it’s Obama in the Whitehouse. Maybe it’s Conan on The Tonight Show. Maybe it’s Jon and Kate dropping the “and.” But it feels like our pop culture went into some of the craziest, most entertaining directions this year. A flip was switched. A floodgate was opened. Choose your metaphor. Yes, we have alot to be thankful for this year as media consumers. So in honor of the holiday when were supposed to give thanks for all we have, here are some of the icons, gamechangers, and works that I’m most thankful for this year: Ryan Reynolds Sen. Al Franken George Clooney Lady Gaga The cast of Glee Mad Men Tina Fey Twitter Up Adam Lambert The Coen Brothers Hulu What from the bountiful feast that is our pop culture are you thankful for this...
Read MoreEIGHT HIPSTERS AND A LITTLE LADDIE movie poster
From the director of (500) Days of Summer… Not really, but doesn’t this Gap Cheer Factory ad look like a poster for the worst holiday comedy ever to invade an art house cinema? Of course, it’s not as ridiculous as this. Unnecessary close up of that poor baby in the middle after the...

Anytime Steven Spielberg attaches his name to something, it gets our attention. But when you throw Stephen King’s name on the same project, well, it’s popgasm time. Spielberg and King are teaming up to produce a TV mini-series based on King’s just-released novel Under the Dome. The novel, which King started working on more than 30 years ago, tells the story of a small town trapped inside an invisible dome. Lord of the Flies-style antics ensue. The show will be produced by DreamWorks TV, which has been developing shows for Showtime including the Emmy-winning United States of...

Variety reports that Peter Iliff will write the live-action feature adaptation of America’s best pop culture export since Baywatch. (Speaking of, when are we getting that Baywatch movie. Or at least a CW series.) American Gladiators: Insert Super Awesome Subtitle Here will hit theaters in...
Read MoreIs Anne Hathaway the Black Cat in SPIDER-MAN 4?
The ever reliable Nikke Finke says Sony Pictures is courting Anne Hathaway for an unknown role in Spider-Man 4. And a role that’s been buzzing on the Internet for the last couple weeks has been that of Black Cat. Put two and two together and you get Anne Hathaway being up for the role of Black Cat in Spider-Man 4. The Spider-Man animated series that aired in the 1990s has always been my touchstone for the series, not because I didn’t read comic books, but rather I just didn’t read Spider-Man. While Anne Hathaway doesn’t strike me as the perfect Cat, she does have an edginess that ambushes you because of her soft exterior. It could make her a great villian, especially in Raimi’s Spidey world. What do you think of Anne Hathaway as Black...
