Disney Gets Full Rights To Indiana Jones
Whether this is good news or bad news, time will tell, but in a deal with Paramount Pictures, Disney has acquired the full rights to the Indiana Jones character. Paramount will retain the rights to the first four pictures and likely receive some sort of financial reward for pictures in the future, but the deal is done. Indy is now with Disney.
Does this give new credence to the rumor that Harrison Ford demanded an Indy 5 in order to appear inĀ Star Wars 7? Possibly. We already know that Ford is more interested in Indy than he is Han Solo. He’s made his intentions to reprise the role one more time well known. Now that the character lives at Disney instead of Paramount, that could happen sooner rather than later.
Will Spielberg be back, too? How about Shia? Can we simply start fresh now with a new director at the helm? There are lots of questions still to be answered. But the same goes for Indy as it does Star Wars, they can’t possibly screw it up worse than George Lucas did.
Disney makes good, watchable product, even at its worst. Because they have a major stake in the future success of the character and the property, that may mean that we may get one more good Harrison Ford Indy. Before the inevitable reboot or relaunch that is. Ford isn’t getting any younger, after all.
