Kevin Smith Has Seen The New Batsuit And….
In some alternate universe, Kevin Smith‘s Superman screenplay will have been produced and my alternate isn’t worrying about whether WB can pull off another superhero movie because it already has.
But here we are in Man of Steel world, hoping and praying that WB gets it right.
After seeing the new Batsuit with his good buddy Ben Affleck in it, writer/director/podcaster Kevin Smith certainly thinks they did. He basically went bananas on his podcast (h/t Screenrant) describing his reaction to the Batman Vs. Superman suit when Zack Snyder showed it to him:
“I saw the Batman costume. More than that, I saw a picture of [Ben Affleck] in the costume…I don’t want to give anything away ’cause that is up to them and stuff, but I am going to say this…I instantly bear hugged [Snyder]. You have not seen this costume on film before. For a comic book fan, it was mind-bending… Because every other movie does this Matrix-y black armor thing…There wasn’t a single nipple on this suit. I think everyone is just gonna be like ‘Holy S**t!’ It’s its own thing. We haven’t been down this path before. Even the hardest core [most skeptical] person will be like ‘Alright, I’m ready.’…It seemed like it was very [Redacted] influenced.”
That “redacted” section is actually there because Smith didn’t air the word. But by his description before that we can very well assume that we’re going to see a black cape and cowl with a gray suit or something more traditional like that.
Given Zack Snyder has already implied that Frank Miller‘s The Dark Knight Rises is inspiration for the film, I think it’s also safe to assume that “redacted” is actually Miller. What do you think?
