So GHOSTBUSTERS 3 Might Actually Happen After All

Over the years, there hasn’t been much substance to any Ghostbusters 3 rumor. About the time that the Ghostbusters video game came out, it started to feel like those rumors were simply PR stunts to get people talking about those busters of ghosts in order to sell the game. Like when we learned The Office writers were taking a stab at the script in 2008, months before the 2009 video game release.

But I guess that was just me being cynical because it looks like Ghostbusters 3 may happen after all. For real.

Earlier this week it was reported that Emma Stone and Jonah Hill have been offered roles in a Bill Murray-less sequel to the classic 80s comedy franchise. The two actors would play Anna and Jeremy respectively, which means absolutely nothing given the lack of context.

Of course, we’ve heard rumblings like this before, but it wasn’t until Cleveland NBC affiliate WKYC broke the news that Sony is considering Cleveland as a shooting location for Ghostbusters 3 that the rumor carried any weight. And according to WKYC, Sony is targeting a Spring 2014 start date for the production.

So what is the movie about anyway? Well, back in May, Larry King interviewed Dan Aykroyd (presumably about vodka) when Ghostbusters 3 naturally came up. And Aykroyd had this to say:

We’re going to have to cast. We need four new ghostbusters. We need four new Columbia students… It’s based upon new research that’s being done in particle physics by the young men and women at Columbia University. Basically there’s research being done that…I can say that the world or our dimension that we live in, our four planes of existence, length, height, width, and time, become threatened by some of the research that is being done. And Ghostbusters, new Ghostbusters have to come and some the problem.

There was no reason to believe then that there was any truth to the quote, but now? Well, it looks like we may have a plot, a cast, and a timeline for shooting. Never thought I’d see the day.
