ATTACK THE BLOCK’s Joe Cornish Up For STAR TREK 3
I hated Star Trek: Into Darkness. I hated its weak character development. I hated it’s half-assed attempt at a mystery reveal. And I hated the goofy action, which made Attack of the Clones look like a sci-fi adventure masterpiece. Yes, Star Trek: Into Darkness is that bad.
But it made a starship-load of money, so there’s going to be a third film, no question. The good news is, while J.J. Abrams is off making the Star Wars movie he always wanted to make, he’s leaving Star Trek in the hands of another director. And that director? It may be Joe Cornish, who directed the brilliant sci-fi comedy Attack the Block.
Deadline is reporting that Cornish is Paramount’s top choice to replace Abrams as the creative force behind the rebooted franchise. In addition to Attack the Block, Cornish co-wrote the screenplay for The Adventures of Tin-Tin, with Edgar Wright, and is doing the same currently with the script for Wright’s Ant-Man. That’s a good enough resume for me. Let’s just hope Abrams, who is producing, doesn’t make him throw in any lens flares.
