Marvel Prepping 4 TV Series, Plus A Mini-Series
Now that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has a full season pickup, Marvel can likely breathe a little easier when it comes to small screen properties. That’s why the news that Marvel is prepping more TV isn’t that shocking. The scope of the project, 60-episodes of TV with 4 series and a mini-series, kind of is.
Even for a company on a role like Marvel, you have to imagine there’s some risk involved with committing so heavily to television in addition to cinema. But when you have a stable of characters as deep as Marvel does, can you blame them for wanting to leverage those heroes and villains?
One of the TV series expected to come out of this is the rumored Agent Carter TV series, which could launch out of the Marvel One Shot short film that appears on the Iron Man 3 disc. There’s at least one property, but what about the others? Marvel is keeping that information tightly guarded at the moment.
Also unknown is just where Marvel’s series will be shown. ABC isn’t about to turn into the all-Marvel channel, no matter how much I wish they’d replace both Once Upon a Time shows in favor of superhero series. According to Deadline, even VOD is in the mix. As long as I don’t have to get cable or Hulu Plus to watch these, I’m open to whatever distribution method Marvel chooses.
