Bryan Cranston Denies All Of Those Lex Luthor Rumors
It seems like such a long time ago that rumors of Bryan Cranston being cast as Lex Luthor surfaced on the internet, so long that it almost seemed like there must be some truth to it. But in reality, it was only about a week ago when CBN reported that Cranston signed on to play Lex Luthor for as many as six movies. Without an outright denial, that rumor made it all the way to the AP, Yahoo! Movies and Rolling Stone.
So it comes with a heavy heart that I have to write this: In an interview with the Boston Globe, Cranston finally denied that he got the role of Supes arch-nemesis in the sequel to Man of Steel. Here’s what he had to say when the Boston Globe confronted him about the rumor:
“I’ve heard that too,” he said. And what about those reports that he’s signed to play Luthor in as many as six Man of Steel movies? He laughed. “Six? This is all news to me. I think that maybe my name is bandied about because I’m known to be bald. ‘What bald guy can we get?’ The reality is they can take any actor and shave his head or put a bald cap on him.”
Still, that didn’t stop the Globe from asking Cranston if he would call Gene Hackman, who played Luthor in the 1978 adaptation, should he get the part. Cranston’s response:
“I can just see how that phone call would go… ‘Gene? Hi, this is Bryan Cranston.’ ‘Who? Bryan Cranston? What do you want? How did you get this number?’ ”
So coy.
Now does any of this mean the Cranston is not Lex Luthor for sure? Not at all. But until WB announces who they’ve cast as Luthor, the idea that Cranston will play the big bad in Batman Vs. Superman gets more and more appealing. The longer they wait, if Cranston isn’t Luthor, the harder it’s going to be to sell someone else in the role.
So if Cranston isn’t Lex Luthor, who would you like to see in the part? Let me know in the comments below.
